Re: Ultex Jazz III review
I like the Jazz III but I recently discovered these!!! Jazz Star
Same size and shape than a jazz III but the star hole make it very confortable to hold.. it won't slip away... and they're covered with some powder.. (you know the same one used for babies' butt)... GREAT PICKS!
The real ones are more pointy than on the picture!

Re: Ultex Jazz III review
SO I got my
Ultex Jazz III
and used it at rehearsal last night, I must say, you develop a better sense of articulation using it. They give a good transfer of energy directly to the string, and the point doesn't wear down, I usually wear down the tips of most picks in one practice, the Ultex didn't wear at all over 4 hours.
I like 'em !

Re: Ultex Jazz III review
this is the pick Ive been searching for!
Ive been playing balck JazzIIIs for about 10 years or so (not entirely sure what year I started using them) and have been annoyed by the drop off in quality since the early 00's... they are getting more and more like the red ones which are just horribly plastic... and sound horribly plastic to my ears... Ive been having to sand the edges of the black picks before I use them to get that smooth texture and even out the bigger lumps and bumps that all JazzIIs seem to have.... but now theres no need!!!
The Ultex is exactly that finely ground texture Ive been looking for! with now annoying bumps and lumps makes picking more fluid and like bamm says that just makes articulation a treat! with only a little more treble as far as I can tell ...
They are the best buy Ive made in ages .... just annoyed I only bought 10 need to get some more now!
Anyone who uses JazzIIIs should definatly try one of these little guys out...

Re: Ultex Jazz III review
Well, I used Fender Heavy's (regular and California Clears) my whole life,,,,until finally buying some black Jazz III's last winter. Now, I can't go back to a regular pick. I even tried the XL version of the Jazz III, and even that feels like a paddle to me. I can't even believe how these picks improved my
alternate picking
. Anyway, I recently bought a few dozen of these
Ultex Jazz
III's,,,and I love em. However, I keep going back and forth between the black ones and these Ultex ones. I find the Ultex ones easier to grip and hold onto without slipping for longer periods,,,but other than that, I think I'll be using both forever. I agree that the red ones are softer and seem to wear real fast, and I don't like them. Way different attack than the black ones or Ultex ones. Anyway, if you've never played with a little black or Ultex Jazz III pick, you really need to try one out. It may be just what you've always needed in a pick.

Re: Ultex Jazz III review
Thanks to Philkilla, I also have a handful of these picks now, and they are the sh!t. They are lighter, stiffer, and just all around feel better than the black Jazz III's.

Re: Ultex Jazz III review
Haven't tried the Ultex version yet (still not available here) but this thread is what got me using the black Jazz IIIs. After 2 weeks I could not go back to the 2mm Gators I was using before hand. The Jazz IIIs are awesome!

Man Im loosing these things at an alarming rate! I usualy lose a black jazzIII or two a week ... and they turn up in the bottom of the washing machine or get hoover'd etc... but Im losing an Ultex nearly everytime a play!
good financial move by
Jim Dunlop
to make them practically invisable! should sell tons more of them...

Re: Ultex Jazz III review
After searching high and low throughout this city, there's still none that carry these frick'n picks! So i ended ordering a dozen on the 'bay and all I can say these picks are near-perfect... they just feel sooooo responsive. I gave a few to a friend who introduced me to the black Jazz III's many years ago; he calls me a few days later and asks me to order a couple dozen! I wasn't going to say no cause i was gonna get more anyhow and it ends up being cheaper than running to GC to get a 5-pack of black or red Jazz III's
As others have said, do not let these picks fall on the floor and keep 'em in close proximity cause they ARE a PITA to find... you'd tend to miss 'em even with the lights on.

Re: Ultex Jazz III review
i have a couple here and i honestly dont think they are superior to the jazz tortex or the black jazz 3.. the tone is halfway in between the two, the jazz 3 is definitely faster for alt picking, and the tortex sounds the best imo.

Re: Ultex Jazz III review
Can you please tell me if the edges are beveled? I have found that shredding with the original Jazz III was annoying because there would be some resistance when doing sweeps.
If these Ultex ones have beveled edges like the Stubby then I will definatly give them a shot.
