Unknown DS-1???

I bought what I thought was a Keeley DS-1 for $22 off of the 'bay, but when I received it earlier on today, it became fairly obvious that it's not a Keeley.

But that's okay, because it's an awesome pedal. As a distortion, it's okay, but when used as an overdrive, it's incredible. Tons of warm, full tone that's very reminiscent of a TS9.

Anyways, I need some help identifying it, as I have no idea who modified it.

I can tell that it's one of the very early MIT DS-1's, from back when they first started using the Mitsubishi opamps, though. But that's about the extent of my knowledge.

The toggle switch is located on the front end of the pedal, right next to the input for an AC adaptor.

I'll get pics of it a little later.

Sounds very cool, you can never go wrong with a DS-1.

Re: Unknown DS-1???

You really can't. Especially when it's modded, sounds great, and cost $22 plus shipping.

Only downside is that it's a little noisy, but I don't mind much. All I have to do is turn the gain down a little.

Actually, you can. That's why I sold mine. It just didn't seem to mesh well with my Laney AOR. Weird. I'da thought they woulda gone together quite nicely. Replaced it with a Digitech Bad Monkey, and couldn't be happier. It was EXACTLY what I needed.

Re: Unknown DS-1???

I've never tried the Bad Monkey. Was your DS-1 modded, Racer?

I'll have a picture up in a minute. It should help.

Edit;

I've never seen a Modded DS-1 With the toggle switch there before, maybe it was just done by someguy not an actual company.

Couldn't agree more - the DS-1 I had for a short while was only useful with the tone set on zero, which gave me a sort of Hyundai version of Eric Johnson's 100 lb violin tone - but there are a million better ways to get that tone (at least 50 or so of which I could get out of my rig anyway), so OUT IT WENT......

.... having said that, I'd like to hear a Keeley modded one to be proven wrong!

Yeah, you're probably right. Not necessarily a bad thing, though.

I like the original Japanese DS-1's. The kind with the black labels.

You've got to try a Keeley or Analog Man DS-1. It's not really even a DS-1 after it's been modded.
