well, i cant comment on the price seein as im not in america. Bus despite all the bad things people say about valvestate....... i think the AVT series are actually really good for the cash and considering what they are!

My thing is, I don't understand the point of paying extra for a hybrid amp. I mean, sure, a tube in the preamp is nice... but the majority of the gain has gotta be solid state assist- either the clean channel is all solid state and there are two tube gain stages, which probably still wouldn't give you enough gain for the levels the AVT's put out, or there's a single tube gain stage for clean, and a single tube gain stage plus a few LED's in the crunch and lead channels- still mostly solid state. And anyway, the thing people rave about tube amps for is really the power amp- so, you're paying extra for a mostly solid state preamp and a solid state poweramp? It's a total marketing coup.

All that said... Depending on the shape of the cab, that isn't really a bad deal. New, those are what, $700? probably about $500 used in great shape? if the head's fully functional, you could probably turn around and sell it vor very nearly what you paid for it... Price the used market before you commit, to find out what the street vaule is. If they're both in great shape, then it's not too bad. Not on par with a good tube amp, but for the price...

Sounds a bit too high for me but I don't recall the average street price. I wouldn't buy anything used (pre-owned) that was dead mint for any more than 25% less than what a new one goes for currently (unless it was a collectable investment but that's a separate issue, here). If the difference isn't that great, get a new one. It's a pretty cool amp.

It's high. To check, I looked at MF's website (GC's online store). They have an AVT150 half-stack package for just over $1100 (new). Of course, the cabinet is the AVT, not the 1960a. I don't know what the differences are (someone here will).

I was speaking from a general retail rule of thumb. There's an old saying: as soon as you drive the car off the lot, you lose 25% of the value. Aside from that , the market speaks for itself and whatever the consumer is willing to pay. Personally, if it were me buying, I'm on your side.
