Exactly.

To be fair, changing picks CAN result in a change, sometimes for the better, in your playing. I've been using Jazz III's for years, and lately I've switched to first
Dunlop Tortex
"pitch black" jazz-sized .88's, and now Pitch Black jazz-sized .60's. I was hanging up on the strings a little too much on the heavier picks, but with the .60's, my picking suddenly improved quite a bit.
Admittedly, this is more due to a flaw in my technique, digging in a little too much, but after years of trying to fix it I finally just switched to a lighter pick, and the problem effectively went away...

True enough...but it's more akin to how your driving changes when you move between various cars; regardless of their relative quality, speed, construction, etc, your driving "technique" is going to change somewhat. There are tonal differences between various materials...that much has been firmly established...but does a tonal shift inherently make you a better player?

Re: V-PICK @ Summer NAMM
Well one thing I can say for V-Picks is their shipping is very fast. I just ordered them a few days ago and they came today.
They are about what I expected. They are well made, good picks. They DONT magically make me amazing (DAMN) but I do like them and they are comfortable. I will try my best not to lose them, but once I do (it may happen really soon cuz they are see through) I will not buy more.

I'm endorsed with this company - Vinni is awesome to work with and the picks are truly amazing. I used the 3.0 mm Dunlop Stubby for about 20 years and now I can't even go back to those picks. It really depends on what type of player you are - I do a lot of shred stuff so the type I use is really handy for it

Re: V-PICK @ Summer NAMM
I've found that my pick of choice for straight flatpicking will always be a dunlop gator 2mm. I'm always trying new ones just for grins though. For a combination of flatpicking and fingers i use fred kelly bumblebee thumbpicks. For straight fingerstyle I use fred kelly slick picks or bare fingers. V-pick looks kind of pricey, but fred kelly's picks aren't cheap either. Might try it some time just to see what it's all about.

Xander, would you say that the V-Picks are closest to a Dunlop Stubby? I don't like the chirpy overtones that a Stubby can give, but have been interested in trying one of the small pointed V's.

Re: V-PICK @ Summer NAMM
I read somewhere that Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top used(or uses) a stretched quarter for a pick, so It's all about choice. I like those nylon Dunlops myself..they last a fairly long time and the grip is good.

Man! Sorry that I took FOREVER to reply!
The V-Picks I use are pretty close to a stubby I would say. I don't like them for a pick-scrape unless you hit the strings "just right". But, I have to say, that the points on the V-picks are great because if one wears out, there's two others. Let's just say that you don't wear them out as fast as others!
Not sure if you got to try them yet - they really did make a difference in a portion of my playing...
