Vai's rack

I know Steves current rack consist of a g-force and a sde-3000. I was wondering if anyone knows if he uses the efx loop or if he uses some kind of mixer.

Would be also ULTRA cool to have a dump of his presets for G-Force.

According to guitargeek.com this is what Steve's rig looked like in 1999. I personally don't know how accurate this is since they got his guitars totally wrong but the information was supposed to have been directly from the Bad Horsie's mouth.

Keeping in mind that it likely NOT the volume pedal he's using anymore, and I doubt he uses the Digitech Whammy if he has the G-Force sitting there.

As far as I know, he IS still using the Digitech Whammy (at least he was the last few times I saw him) It was definitely on his pedalboard during the last G3 show that I saw (w/Petrucci), and he used it a ton at the final show of the "Ultra Zone" tour at the Anaheim House of Blues. While the G-Force (& G-Major for that fact) have "whammy" capabilities, they really don't track quite as well as the actual Whammy.

The last pic I have of his pedal board dates back to 2001 so who knows what it looks like now but I doubt it's changed much.

Notice the customized Whammy - I believe this predates the Whammy 4 with the midi port.

Yeah, I was wondering what was up with that customized whammy. That's cool. But why the Crybaby (looks like anyways)?

I believe that special port on the old Whammy was to control the infamous 'Rack Of Wham' which, as Tex said earlier, has gone on to be with the great rack unit in the sky. Why the Crybaby? The Master probably just wants a different/vintage wah sound for different songs. Or, it could just as easily not be a crybaby at all. It could be an expression pedal for the rack units or an extra volume pedal. I'm no expert in this department so I could just as easily be wrong on all counts.

Actually, its a crybaby case with different guts. Mayer? He offered a guy I know a grand for an original whammy he brought to the show. BUT, he wouldnt sell it.(he had is signed by all sorts of people, morello, satch, etc etc etc ) he offered to run home and get one to GIVE to him, but vai was none too happy. (the guy only lived a block away from the music hall) This was at the g3 show in Austin. He only uses the bad horsie wah periodically. Its mostly the custom roger mayer wah. Get close enough to the stage and you'll see he hardly ever steps on the bad horsie.
