Vai's tubes - What does he use ?

Hey guys ! My first post ! Anyway, i was wondering what brand of tubes Vai uses for his Legacy heads and why ? I've always been curious cos' it's the least known part of his setup and not to mention the least publicised. Thanks !

Vai's tubes

Here is a picture of the back of Steve Vai's amp and he has Groove Tubes in it. I am not sure if that is still what he is using because it is a older picture. here is the link.

If you want some really good tubes checkout www.eurotubes.com I think they are alot better then anything else you could buy because they are always good very consistant.

Eurotubes is a company that sells tubes, not a brand. *He sells JJ (Tesla) tubes. *Depends on what kind of tubes you are looking for. *If you are looking for EL34s, the JJs are pretty good and a little cheaper than Svetlanas. *If you are looking for 6L6s I would go with Svets. *For 12AX7s, the JJs are pretty middle of the road, they are good, Electro-Harmonix are much better. *Groove Tubes are pretty good, again, they buy from the some of the same manufacturers and match the tubes and stamp them with their name. *There are only a few tube manufacturers in the world, off the top of my head there are:

JJ, made in Czechoslovakia in the old Tesla plant
Svetlana, Russian, they make some of the best power tubes available today
Sovtek, also Russian, Sovteks are pretty good tubes, they pull their best tubes for Electro-Harmonix which are really good, definitely worth the extra $ for the EH.
There are a few manufacturers in China too, don't know much about them though, they make good 12AX7s, high gain and a little brighter than most of the European tubes, very reasonable price too, I would probably use those over JJs. *

There are still NOS (new old stock) US and British tubes floating around but they are pretty expensive. *The Philllips STR6L6 is pretty much widely accepted as the best around, for an inexpensive alternative check this out. *

My pretty well informed $0.02,
Roger

The tubestore is a great place to deal with. Bought stuff from them and sold them NOS tubes a while back.
