Re: Vamp2 sounds?

Yeah , but I'm looking for a great Satch tone and a nice Vai tone. I have an RG3120 and use my vamp2 but on the vamp site there are not alot of pathes.

Maybe try the POD2-2-V-amp converter: http://home.swbell.net/bfalch1/

Re: Vamp2 sounds?

distorsion = distortion

Try tweaking it yourself, you'll learn a lot from it. Change parameters and listen what they do to the sound, it's just like learning a song by ear instead of just going to a random tabsite and read the song from the tab without thinking about it.

It's too easy these days; tickle your musical spirit.

Re: Vamp2 sounds?

Yeah , but I just have the feeling that my guitar will never sound like a Vai one. I have a ToneZone now but I am considering changing it for an Evolution sometime soon.

Re: Vamp2 sounds?

No offence but isn't that the point? If we all sounded like Vai or Satch it would'nt make their sound all that appealing. The whole beauty of playing an instrument is to get individuality. If everyone could play just like Hendrix maybe he wouldn't have been as respected, you see my point? Be yourself and get a sound that is distinctly yours and someday maybe you will be the talk of the guitar world!! Just something to ponder.

Re: Vamp2 sounds?

One day, I was playing some of my own recordings on my pc, and listening to some other real music.

My wife tells me, "I know that is you playing". I happily (inspired) thought "I have my own sound now." Before that thought was complete though, my wife added "you sound like c-r-a-p".

I agree with jrav, that having your own individuality is one of those ideal end-points. But, at the same time, it doesn't hurt to start at a known good start-point. Krizz's advice to just play around with the thing is also valuable, as you learn more of the tool you have.

Re: Vamp2 sounds?

Yeah, it's HUGELY valuable advice - The one thing a modeler has over a conventional amp is extreme flexibility and programability.

(the thing a conventional amp has, of course, is tone and response )

To get you ballpark, Vai relied primarily on a Bogner Exctacy for that album, but that one sounds more like it came from his DS-1. So, does the V-amp offer pedal models? (I've never used one). If so, take a clean-ish marshall and add a DS-1 out front for your lead patch.

The problem here, though, is there's a LOT of power amp compression on that one, and most modelers don't allow you to adjust this. Basically, if you want that tone, a nice low-wattage clean tube amp running midway or higher and a DS-1 will get you a lot closer - try a Fender Blues Jr. for that clean sparkle, and a DS-1 in front. That'd be my recommendation on a budget.
