Vintage Fender Amp....I think

Hoping to get some help. I have an OLD Fender Super Reverb with four 10 inch speakers in it. I was told when I gave the guy $100 for it that he thought it was a '68. It had been in his closet for 18 years. I have now decided to try to restore it and actually USE the thing with an effect processor for gigs. It has two 6L6s in it and some other smaller tube. The amp DOES ACTUALLY WORK, but the pots are shot, and I'm sure it needs new tubes, and probably a transformer too. I can't find a model number on it anywhere. Any information and/or advice about old fender amps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

Silver face or black face?
Fender combos from the 60's usually have a 2"x3" piece of paper stapled to the inside wall by the speakers that lists the tubes it uses.

You can match numbers on the power and output transformers with lists to get rough dates also. I wouldn't try and match speaker serial numbers because they may have been replaced at some point.

If you post some pix inside and out we might be able to help you better.

Silver face. I went and looked for that piece of paper and it's been ripped off, probably about 30 years ago. The foot switch is hardwired if that helps. I will try to get some pics up soon. Hell, I just want to know what it is! Thanks!

Re: Vintage Fender Amp....I think

also, by being a reverb amp it'll probably have a couple more tubes than other clean amps.

you probably got:

1 12ax7, first and second gain stage (Tonestack in between).
1 12at7, Reverb driver (tied to reverb transformer primary)
1 12ax7, Reverb recovery
1 12ax7/12at7, Phase inverter.

if the amp has tremolo, it might have 1 or 2 (if there are two separate channels) additional 12ax7 tubes.

Re: Vintage Fender Amp....I think

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!! Now at least I know it's between a '68 and a '74. I think '68 sounds better, so that's what I'll tell people. <g> I think I'll be able to find tubes and pots for it. Transformer, I don't know if I can find one of those or not, but I don't trust a 40 yr old transformer. We'll see. Thanks again. You guys are amazing!!!!
