Volume Pedal? Which one and where in the signal chain?

I've been struggling with my volume for a long time, but we recently picked up a singer and it's even more of a problem now.

I know I have a pot on my guitar that I can turn down with during verses, but it never works out right.
Either I forget to turn down or I go to far.

I'm leaning toward a volume pedal (the Ernie Ball VP Jr. mostly because of it's size).
I would like to know what brands are small and very sturdy.
Also, where you put it in your signal chain.

I am in hopes that I would be able to put one in my loop, right after the send and just before my delay.
This way, I can control the hiss from the amp's distortion channel as well.
I know I could get a noise gate, but I don't like them, and I want as few pedals as possible.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I live on an island and have no place that I can try pedals out.

I have a Dunlop DVP1 that I think is great, but it's big and heavy. I have plenty of room on my pedal board so that isnt an issue for me. I run it from my loooper pedal so it isn't in my signal chain unless I want to use it.

if you're looking at the vp jr and would use the tuner out feature, i'd highly recommend getting a JHS modified vp jr. They make it an active pedal by putting a buffer in there that prevents the infamous tone suction that the tuner out is notorious for.

Is the VP Jr transparent if the Tuner Out is not used?

Get a Hitlon Volume pedal, all your problems solved.

No more sucking tone, tons of clarity, no more "thin" sound, and great control...

Well, they are not cheap anyway.

If you want accurate volume control, you'll need a volume pedal with indicators on it. I've got visual sound's Visual Volume VV10.

http://www.visualsound.net/index.php...visual_volume/

It's a fair bit pricey for a volume pedal, but i believe the active circuitry, 2 inputs and outputs, the boost feature, tuner out, buffered output AND THE LED INDICATORS make it worth it.

I use it as the very first thing in my chain to act as the volume pot for my guitar and to adjust the amount of gain hitting the amp, and then i can also go extreme with using the volume pot on the guitar as well.

That's my recommendation for you.

I got an Ernie Ball Volume and its in front of the amp. People say they suck tone or whatever but I can never notice a difference.

The Visual Sound is huge and ugly, but I like the LED's!
What is the quality like?

I'll take a look at the Hilton right now!

This is jamey Ice showing his pedalboard... Just check what he says about the EB and what volume pedal he use now:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOEYCuWJMiw

There are 2 versions of the hitlon, one is big and the other is more compact...

If you want something good on your pedalboard, get the hilton, if you want a cheap volume pedal, just get the rest.

It's pretty sturdy, i've had no problems with it, it's all made of metal, even got the **** beaten out of it on delivery, the box it came in was torn to shreds.

I don't think it's all that big and ugly but? But i do use an entire guitar case for my pedalboard

I gotta see a picture of that board!

Do you notice any tone sucking or changes when you use the Visual Sound?

One more positive factor about the Visual sound if that it's adjustable so that you can taylor it to your preferences.

Re: Volume Pedal? Which one and where in the signal chain?

If you want it to act just like your guitar volume, put it in front of everything, it'll change your guitar tone(just like its volume) and after closed you'll still hear all effects like delay and reverb.
If you put it in your amp efx loop after all effects, it'll act as a master volume and you won't hear delay and reverb , it'll be a fast cut of sound. If you can choose where you want to put in your effects loop, put it right before delay and reverb(the last ones in the chain), this way when you cut the sound, you'll still hear delay and reverb finishing whatever you set on them.
