VOX Modeling Amps

Has anyone had a chance to test ride those new VOX Modeling Amps?

They're a combo of Korg effects wrapped around a tube amplifier with switchable Class A/B feedback loops.

I'd seriously like to hear one in person but I've called around numerous places and no one has one on the floor.

I currently have a Line 6 AX2 but I find it a little....stale. *It just doesn't breathe. *Tweaking doesn't help. *Tweaking helps the tone but not the feel. *It's hard to explain. *Maybe I just need to buy a tube amp and forget it but I like the option of onboard effects.

I'm hoping with a tube amp that this VOX gives better dynamics. *

VOX Modeling Amps

I tried one briefly...sounded about like other modelling amps to me. *But it did seem a bit more lively than the Flextone. *I like the Yamaha DG-80...but still prefer tubers.

VOX Modeling Amps

* *Yeah, I know what you mean. I recorded a track at a friend's house using the AX-2 and while the recorded sound was really good, the feel while I was playing was lacking. They don't "breathe" like a real tube amp...None of the modelers I've tried yet have that quality. I picked up a GNX-1 last year and it doesn't seem to feel as "dis-connected" as some other units, imho.

* * Anyhow, if a tube amp is what you really want, then I think you should forget about the modeling amps at least for now until the technology improves some more. I like to use both types so I'm not stuck with just one type of sound.

VOX Modeling Amps

Actually,
I get to play with one of the Valvetronix every day. * I used to have a Flextone II, but didn't like how bright it became when turned up..... so I dumped it.
The store that I teach at carries Korg and has given me one to demo. *I have to admit I've been very impressed with it..... although I'm not too crazy about the foot controller. *It seems to be way more lively and punchy than any of the other modelers I've played. *And it actually sounds good loud. *Maybe its the way the output section has a tube to overdrive.... not sure, but it feels like a "real" amp.
I would have no problems gigging with one.

I just bought one today. I couldn't believe how "real" these amps sound. They are very responsive with good dynamics. They're very warm and musical. I'm partial to tube amps and haven't owned a solid state amp in a long time. But this amp is quite amazing.
