Wall hangers leaving crud on my neck

I just bought a set of these wall hangers...

http://www.guitarcenter.com/ProLine-...66-i1171131.gc

here is a pic...

when i went to grab my 540s i noticed that the foam on the hanger was sticking to the neck. I pulled it off and it left some black foam gunk on it. I tried to just scratch it off with my fingernail but has left a sticky black residue. It does not appear to be happening with the other guitars. Perhaps its because its a custom finish job that i did on the guitar. It has a veneer with a clear spray lacquer. But i have not heard of this happening to anyone else. When i did a search i did see these on some other jemsiters installs i see some furry covers for the wall hangers, what are these and does anyone have any other suggestions?

They're guitar hanger bras we used to use them in a store I managed because that would happen to the Gibsons. Where the rubber/plastic would eat through the nitrocellulose. Those furry bras are the thing for Gibson and those types of guitars, Ibanez and Jackson use a different lacquer and usually don't have problems with hangers...

The foam on most all of those hangers and stands is well known to react with nitrocellulose finishes. That's why they all come with a tag that states so ... that tag you threw out without reading. You need to either cover the foam, or use a brand that won't react with the nitro (String Swing, for one, guarantees their foam will not damage nitro finishes).

Re: Wall hangers leaving crud on my neck

I've used the Krylon clear for a kit guitar I built, and when I started putting the guitar on my 5 guitar rack the rubber must have somehow softened the clear and made a mess on my guitar's body. I have strap indentations on it as a result.

I don't think it's nitro, but it is pretty damn soft.

I liked the fact that you've got loads of lovely expensive guitars lined up on your wall... then at the end was a Squier lol

Nah, none of them are too expensive.. the epi 12 string is a cheapie and i didnt pay more than 500 for either the ovation or the ibanez. The squire was needed for recording bass parts. I have an rt150 that will be joining them soon ($120). So compared to most guys here, its a very modest collection.

wall hangers are good for stores, but if you want to keep dust and such down to a minimum, put them in their cases.
