Wall hangers. Recomendations?
I've seen a lot of wall hangers on *bay but I am a little worried of their quality. The two simple things that anyone wants from a wall hanger are not to damage the finish of the guitar and not to fall on the floor from that high.
So... what do you guys use?

Hercules. The swing arms close over the face of the fretboard as soon as you put downward pressure on the bar, so your guitar isn't falling off in a hurry. They're a bit sticky on the
locking nut
, but you get the knack inside the first try or so.

That's what they use in my
local music shop
.
Very good quality hangers.

if you are going to hang your guitars, you should def make sure you are devoted enough to keep the room at a proper temperature and humidity level.

Assuming you keep your guitar, in the case, in the same room you're going to hang it, how could it possibly make a difference? If the case has been in the same room for any length of time, it's going to have the same relative humidity as the rest of the room.
I use Hercules hangers.
The important thing I'd suggest is absolutely do NOT use them unless you're going to run to the hardware store, get some long drywall screws, and find a stud to screw them into. There's no way I'd trust any drywall anchors to hold my guitar in the wall.

Re: Wall hangers. Recomendations?
Hercules are good wall hangers. The sheet rock anchors they come with suck, so I'd go get some better ones from the hardware store, or even better, try to mount them in studs.

Re: Wall hangers. Recomendations?
I bought a bunch of "string swing" hangers and put them up a couple of weeks ago - just make sure you mount them in the studs and they'll never fall.

Another vote for the String Swing but I wouldn't sweat finding a stud. Just use the large drywa;; anchor that comes with it or go to home depot and get a little box of them. I have never had one come out of the wall in 10 years.

I agree - if a stud isn't available, use an anchor FAR bigger and stronger than you'll think you'll ever need. It's a little extra money, but not as much as fixing a guitar that fell off the wall.
Make sure you get the 'molly' type that you push thru the wall and it ends up behind the wall at least a couple of inches on both sides.

I tried Hercules hangers years ago. I've currently got three sitting in a bag in my closet, with three String Swings hanging guitars on my wall.
Part of it was they just always felt kind of cheap and gimmicky, but a large part of it is that while they WILL just barely accomodate a seven string locking nut, it's a tight squeeze and I've almost dropped guitars when they unexpectedly caught on the hanger while trying to disengage them.
The String Swings meanwhile are more attractive, way simpler, more elegant, and accomodate a seven string neck with ease.
I'm not too worried about them falling out of the wall either, considering they're hanging over my bed.

I use string swings also, never had a problem with just the sheet rock screws they come with. No studs needed.
Kennydoe, what did you use to get the Fly to hang?

+1 on the String Swing wallhangers. I've got 5 on my wall and none of them are mounted on studs. This is an old picture:
I used metal wall anchors which support 15 lbs each. Seeing as there are 2 holes with the String Swing hangers, I could easily put a
les paul
and there shouldn't be a problem.
Jimmy
P.S.: Another plus for the String Swing mounts is that the yoke pivots are adjustable and you can easily open them wider if you have a wider neck on your guitar.

My Fly came with a little molded plastic doo-hickey specifically for that purpose. It mounts on the tuners of the guitar (floating, not screwed in or anything) and has a cut out for the guitar holder. I'll take a pic if you're really interested.

If you don't mind, I would like to see it. Maybe I can get mine off the floor.
