Was wanting opinions and specs on a amp

ok guys i have recently destroyed my old amp. (long story don't ask) i have the chance to buy a amp from a friend that he has used for a backup for years. it is a Pevey Stereo Chours 400. i have never played through it and he has moved. but he will meet me half way if i want to buy it. it is about 2hrs to meet him. he said i can have it for 120.00. since i need a amp like yesterday i was wondering if this is a good buy? i am having trouble to find info for it. he says it comes with the switch pedal as well. i have seen the amp many times just never heard him play through it. it looks almost brand new and has wheels on the bottom. he has given me these specs for it. 2 channel with true stero operation. 2 12" scorpions, chours reverb and tremelo and effects loop and optional outs to hook to cabinets. original foot switch and says all plugs knobs and cables are in perfect condition. i have seen and can attest to the condition. just he moved 2 months ago. he also said this thing will play loud enough to rock the neighborhood and said he has used it many times in clubs with no mic on it. he said the clean is awsome while the distorted channel is good but not as distorted as he likes.

just looking for ideas and reviews. like i said i have never heard of these amps or played through one. so any input from you would be great. i am on a budget right now (baby on the way). so how does this thing sound?

Re: Was wanting opinions and specs on a amp

well since no replys i got this amp. it is a rock solid piece. sounds great on clean and the distorition is a little muddy. but this thing is ungodly loud and sounds good cranked. it has 2 12" scorpions in it. the spring reverb is nice but you get the lightning crashing sound if it is bumped. the chours is suprisingly nice sounding not at all what i was expecting. this amp is really heavy for its size glad it has wheels. i am now running both channels on the amp with the channel 1 saturation turned all the way off to make it a 2nd clean. the Digitech 2120 with stereo output sounds good but the speakers are right next to each other so you don't get the panning effect. but it does offer outputs to run external cabs. this thing with the gain set to 3 and the post on 2 for both channels will run you out of a room it is so loud. the neighbors say it is very clean sounding across the street but the sheer volume inside the room makes it sound fuzzy. i have to say i am very pleased with it. it is a solid state but has good tone and bottom end. i was worried about my sound that i had but now i believe i have a new sound that is way tighter but less vintage sound. it has a 80's sound to it that grabbed me. time will tell but i am very pleased. just wanted to pass it on if anyone saw one and wondered. i believe it was replaced by the peavey 212 which has more effects

here is what it looks like

I friend of mine has one of those. He got it when we were in grade 9, and we were all really impressed because it was 600 watts (we didn't know the difference between power from the wall and watts RMS).

It sounded good back then, but I was young and had no ear for tone. So I have no opinion of how it sounds to my ears now.

Re: Was wanting opinions and specs on a amp

my rhythm guitarist uses one. it's o.k. but he's now buying an Ultra 2x12 Peavey tube amp (i kinda pushed him into it). the Peavey chorus 2x12 is a solid amp and works fine. it just lacks a little in the tone dept - it's solid state.
his peavey chorus took a dive off a 5ft stage while stacked on top of two cabs (8ft total drop) and landed on the top of the amp. a GIANT gust of wind was the cause and it nearly leveled the whole stage rigging as well. after setting it back up again - it worked fine w/ no problems. in fact, he has been using it for almost a year since the spill and it still has had no problems. that's one rugged amp.
the price is right - you can always buy something else later and you need something NOW - go for it.
