Waxy Purple Evolutions
Yo... anyways, yeah I'm cleaning my RG1570 that I threw purple evos in. And I notice that inside the magnet part of the pickups there's this waxy looking shlt. I don't know if it's supposed to be there... or my guitar is just that damn dirty/filthy. Help me out? My
paf pros
don't have it in there... Thanks!

Re: Waxy Purple Evolutions
Really? lol... I mean, you know what part I'm talking about right? Inside the little black magnet pole pieces... theres all kinds of crud in there... but also, there's more or less the same amount of wax in every magnet hole! So, 2 humbucker pickups... all 24 holes have the wax in it. Seems a little odd to me... I still dunno if I should clean it out or leave it there??

Pickup coils are dipped in wax before assembly to make them less microphonic.

Re: Waxy Purple Evolutions
Its normal, leave it there? Does it make a difference if it's there or not there? I need someone to give me some in-depth info on what the hell it's there for if it's supposed to be there... Cause if it doesn't have to be, I wanna clean em all out...

By coils I'm guessing you mean the black magnets I'm talking about? And how come my
Paf Pro
doesnt have it inside the silver magnets... only my evos.

Re: Waxy Purple Evolutions
Actually most pickups are potted after they are assembled. And then just given a good rub down. Potting them with wax helps hold all the wire around the coils (plastic pieces with copper wire wound around them) in place. I don't mean hold as in a glue really, but hold as in making sure the wires around the coil don't move relative to eachother.

I'm sorry, but what does potted mean? They stick wax into the pickup magnets uptop?
Man guys... good info, but my question still remains unanswered.

Purple Waxy Evolutions
I posted this in the gear and equipment part of the forum...but I'm yet to get the anwer I need. Here's my question:
"Yo... anyways, yeah im cleaning my guitar with evos in it. And I notice that inside the black magnet part of the pickups there's this waxy looking shlt. I don't know if it's supposed to be there... or my guitar is just that damn dirty/filthy. Help me out? My paf pros don't have it in there."
I'm sure one of you pickup gurus can help me out... why is there a wax substance on the inside of my little black pickup magnets? My Paf Pros dont have wax in them...
An I'm not talking about the wax on the inside of the pup that holds the copper wire in place steady...
Thanks!

Re: Purple Waxy Evolutions
Indeed. Wax in your ear = bad, Wax in your pickups = good
