What amp?

Okay, so I want to play in my bedroom and record, but I don't mind turning UP, (short of wall-shattering though) and I want high gain distortion (ALA DT, Nightwish), but with warm, creamy lead tone (ALA Marshall).

Mesa's are just too expensive for me in my current situation, and I'm thinking along the lines of Marshall JCM800 possibly with a Rocktron preamp for gain boost. The only thing is the JCM800 has only one channel, and I'm not really sure if I would be better with something with more channels, like a Laney VH100R, or a Framus Dragon. I'm thinking something with EL34's though.

Any thoughts?

Re: What amp?

mesa mark line, roadster or roadking, f- series . Engl is kick ass too .

if you want smooth tone i suggest you go with mesa , i wanted smooth thick rich tone , not exactly like john petrucci's but something sort of like it . I ended up with a mark 3 , best amp i ever bough .

i went through these
peavey xxl head
peavey classic 50 head
peavey 5150 head
peavey xxx super 40 efx
carvin x-100b
peavey jsx
vox ad60vt head
peavey ultra 60 head

during that time i played nearly every current model marshall with the exception of the reissue expensive ones , i played or had owned all the peavey lines , i thought about laney but since i had given british stuff a shot i hadn't owned any mesa style stuff . I had played the roadking and so i went with mesa , and it will be mesa to the grave .

Re: What amp?

Does anyone know who the UK importers for ENGL are? Or a good online shop that sells them?
