You should get something that complements and enhances the music you play, so......what do you play?

Where are you playing? Just for kicks in your bedroom, or are you out gigging? What kind of tones do you like?

Great amp, but just a little out of his price range.

If you want tubes, a peavey classic 50(112 or 212) is a good amp. You might need a little bit of a boost for metal sounds though. I also couldn't go without recommending laney amps.

Re: What amp should I buy?

Dave, I use a Fender Frontman 212R which I got for under £200... great amp for practice and gigging, although you will need pedals for modulation effects. The drive channel has a variety of tones too, from blues to metal, but nothing like adding a DS-1 or MT-2 in the effects loop.

Although, I'm seriously looking for a smaller amp to practice and record: Laney LX65R or LV100, VOX AD50VT, Hughes & Kettner Blue 60R. Was going to start a thread to see what others think of these choices, but might as well do it here since our budget is similar. Only thing is, I'm not counting on the amp drive since I have a bunch of pedals.

Tried direct as well but I like the sound of my pedals through the FX loop, that's it :P

Re: What amp should I buy?

I would save up a tiny bit of money and buy a POD XT with an Atomic Reactor amp. That's my rig, and i dont think I'm ever changing it. When you dont have space or travel you can take the XT and it sounds great, when youre at home or playin shows you install it into the Atomic amp with 3 hand-set screws and youve got tube majesty with 128 different tones in the palm of yer hand .

I've tried all 3 and you can't go wrong with any of them, but I ordered the VOX AD50VT-212 off fee-bay today after testing the AD50VT in a store. It's the most versatile compared to the Bandit and Frontman and is way, way better than some of the Line 6 amps I've played on. Had a very tube-like sound which I like! I'll sell my Frontman if the VOX works out well

Re: What amp should I buy?

I used a bandit for years and it was fine. Not the best amp in the work by any means, but for the price, imo it ain't too bad
