What Amp Should I get? ( suggestions please)

Hey Everybody!
Im in search of a new amplifier. Im eyeing these carvins combo...either the legacy I or the x212b which is the combo version of the x100b.or any new suggestions you guys have. Id prefer getting a tube combo roughly $1,000 max , 50-100 watt . Sound wise i play alot of vai , satriani aswell as older stuff such as dire straits , pink floyd and then into led zep and ac/dc so bassicly i want the amp to have a good lead tone for the vai kinda stuff aswell as a nice clean and crunch tone for the other stuff. I Know this is a bad thing to do but i will not be able to test the amp so i have to order online. So im hoping you guys could help me out a little!
thanks a lot!
really appreaciate your help!

Both are great amps but the Legacy 1 is VERY loud and not really suitable for home use.
I have both amps and also a Legacy II which you could also consider, however the X100B is much better value for money & can produce great tones at Low Volumes.

Also there have been some discussions about the X100B re-issue volume being almost too low for gigging, but it depends how you plan to use it really.

If you fancy the X100B I woulkd go with a head & seperate cab, not necessarily a Carvin one. That way you will not be stuck with the Rocket 50 speakers in the Combo, & will also give you more flexibilty should you decide to swap speakers later. Also easier to lug around!

Hey guys,

I am having a problem choosing an amp too.

I need an amp to play with at home, something that I wont need to upgrade for a 2-3 years.
My budget is about £150

It would be better if you could find an amp which comes with a brain.
An amp for £150?
Plug in your dad stereo,it'll sound better.

Why do you have to be so rude?

do you have a stick up your bum or something?
I have been using a line 6 effects module the way you described (through a stereo)

But I need a good practice amp. in my budget range.

For a cheap practice amp, I use an old Line 6 spider 2. The current Spider 4 line starts from about £150 street price, so there's my answer for you on that one, Vin

I've had it for a number of years and its a great little thing. as I only play at home at the moment, I hardly bother with my boogies these days to tell the truth.

@vin- The carvin SX100 is solid state but is a very good sounding one! less than 250 american so about 150 pounds, its got a overdrive/h igain with a "blues" switch, and a very good kind of american voiced clean, but it has alot of headroom without being steril sounding . and a couple of effects on that, its got a footswithc for 20 DOLLARS and can also he covered in a veriety of colours and materials! another alternative could be the cratwe flexwave but its a bit more expensive, and I have also played it, and it has a very good respons for a solid state, it has 3 channels (clean, od and hi gain) there is also another THREE channel carvin SX for about the same price/ a little les then the crate. thos would be my picks!

@6fingers - you have just lost alot of credibility and RESPECT from me..... not everybody is rich ( <<< not talking to you, Rich , although there are few like you ) and there are a lot of teens on here....................

Just for curiosity WHY do you think I care about what you (a stranger inside of a computer) think about me?
LOL
So everybody over £150 is rich to you? LOL
Thanks for turning me a rich man!
Before that I was poor.
