What are your favorite modulation pedals?

Finding a good Chorus, Tremolo, or similar modulation pedal can be difficult. I myself am in the search right now for great vintage, true-bypass pedals of the two effects formerly mentioned. There are too many conflicting reviews! And most music stores don't carry anything but Boss. Screw that.
Maybe we can all make suggestions for great modulation pedals? I think that would help more people than just me.

I havent used any of the modulation pedals, but I really like the line 6 tone core pedals I've used.

The big Modulation Modeller is a pretty cool pedal too

Re: What are your favorite modulation pedals?

I only use chorus to "flavor" the sound a tad. Sometime I will use a Flange with all the values set to 1 to again "flavor" the sound.

Once in a blue moon I turn everything to ten on all pedals for kicks and then I sober up and turn them back to norml.

I like a bit of chorus on clean to get a rich sound sometimes. I had a tremelo but I didn't really like it that much.

Re: What are your favorite modulation pedals?

Ummmm let's see - stompbox wise there has never been a time when I haven't had a TC Electronics Chorus/Flanger on my pedalboard - they really are the absolute bees knees of chorus pedals (ask Eric Johnson!), however (he admits somewhat shamefacedly) lately I have been really loving the gentle, slightly seasick swirl that I get out of a Behringer Vibrato pedal.

Okay, okay I know, but a Boss VB2 sells for almost $500AUD if you can find one, and I can ruin ten Behringer clones before I catch up to that! I did actually A/B a vintage Boss one against the Behringer, and quite honestly, I couldn't hear a shred of difference - a fifty buck uber-bargain!

have used mxr pedals and dod. I like the phaser used with a panner clean sounds different. I use my gsp 1101 for all effects now.

While somewhat a mix of a multi and a stompbox, I really love the vintage sound of my Damage Control Glass Nexus. This was the best investment I ever made. While being a digital unit, you get sounds like in good old analogue time without the noise. Tape Delay, Classic Phaser, Tremolo, Leslie you name it. Excellent box.

Re: What are your favorite modulation pedals?

My fave is the Visual Sound H20 analog chorus and digital echo. Has nice delays in the effects loop with my lead channel and my Visual mSound Route 66 OD in the loop as a boost. though OD pedals sound good in front of the amp, with proper tweakge I got a good fat lead boost and a nice clean boost on clean channel.

I love my VS pedals and Love Boss products as well, owning a Boss GT-8 effects processor for easy recording and small spaced gigs and very versatile.
Though Boss's modulation effects are good, they're well known for their digital delay pedals but they lack definition on most OD and Distortion boxes they make. They're also pretty damn expensive.

Visual Sound has two great effects in one package which takes less cables less space and still can handle a beating. not to mention lower prices for the working musician and less power daisy chains.

There's alot of people that love the old A/DA Flanger box...the one that Paul Gilbert uses. I've seen a couple on e.b.a.y. going for $200 and up. However, if you're handy with circuits I found a DIY circuit schematic for it.

Re: What are your favorite modulation pedals?

I don't think that there is a "best" pedal because they are designed differently with different ranges, filters, and whatnot, and people will have different tastes. But among the choruses that I've tried, I really like the Electro Harmonix Clone Theory, the Line 6 Chorus, and the Rockman Chorus unit. They're all pretty warm sounding, and they're stereo. Pedals that can be adjusted for a very slow rate sound pretty good, too.

Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus...best chorus ever. Very simple design, awesome analog sound, true stereo output. Plain and simple.

Re: What are your favorite modulation pedals?

For Chorus, I can't find anything that beats my MIJ Boss CE-2 (black label). Trower used this one on tour when his UniVibe broke, and it ended up staying on his pedalboard for a while. It's not true bypass, but that doesn't really matter for me that much since I'm running it in the FX loop.

For phasers, the new 74' MXR Custom Shop Phase 90 Reissue is really good. If you get from PRMusicSupply, he can mod it for true bypass and for a 9v power plug (otherwise, it's exactly like the real deal, batteries only and no true bypass).
