What do you guys think about this?

What do you guys think about this amp?

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/msg/192198366.html

I'm in need of a new amp and this guy lives in my city. I'm thinking about hitting him up tonight before this thing is gone. Anyone know what model it is?

200 watts? You'd have to be playing in a pretty big space to be able
to crank it to the point where you have usable distortion, right?

Yes! That is what i'm skeptical about. Anybody know if those volume boxes on the bay really work or if they're just a bunch of junk?

Yep!

Found one on the bay that looks like it(item# 190018002107). Carvin VTR 2800, although the one on the bay says it's 100watts, they both look the same from what I can tell.

About the volume box, item# 200013830132, would that be compatible with this amp? I'm assuming so, since it's just run through the effects loop.

Re: What do you guys think about this?

You can get great tube distortion at any volume with a THD hotplate. Just make sure you get the right impedence, hook it between your cab and head and go at it.

Thankyou! I completely forgot about those. Anywho, just called the guy. Said it's a '75-'79, perfect working order. I'll be the third guy to go check it out tomorrow, he said one of the other two guys was willing to pay more so we'll se how it goes. o_o

One of the other buyers was "willing to pay more"? That kinda sounds like a line of BS to me. Maybe not but if I was a buyer and I liked the amp I'd just buy it for the advertised price then and there. Bring cash.

I'm assuming it's the second guy to go check it out. You know the deal, don't sell it to that guy, i'll give you more for it.

Maybe the THD is different, but I have a Weber (much cheaper, but does the
same thing), and it tends to kill the treble end of things when cutting the
volume, which turns my tone to mud. I don't think I'm the first one to notice
this. With tube amps, especially, where you can't just dial-in the tone you
want at any given volume, it makes sense to consider what volume you
plan to play at and what the characteristics are of the amp at that volume.

Well, it wasn't meant to be. The guy who had dibs on the amp before me bought it. Still in the hunt.
