Like all Marshalls, it really has to be screaming it's guts out before it sounds good. I quite liked mine, but prefer the sound of the 6100 series - the TSL sounded a little lifeless in comparison. There is also a drop out when you change channels that started to really bug me, hence selling it.

Itīs a bit sterile in my opinion. I would get a DSL instead.

the Jcm2000 TSL 100 are good. they can be a little sterile and almost fissy sometimes with the distorted channel. but try it your self and see whether you like it all not.

It seems to affect some TSL amps but not all. The drop out in mine was not too bad, but in some it is really bad. Sounds like you got lucky!

Re: What do you guys think of the Marshall TSL100 head?

First: What style of music are you going to use it for?
Marshalls are heralded the world over as the measuring meter to judge all rock amps against. Obviously, there are those who don't care for them, but overall they are accepted/respected and have sold more amps for that particular type of music than than all others combined.
I own a studio and I've always got a few Marshall heads/cabs kicking around, but lately I have been on a BUDDA binge. I personally prefer the simpler 800 series which is really a single channel amp with a certain sound.
There appears to be 2 camps: the EL34 crowd(Marshall), and the 6L6 crowd(Mesa Boogie/Fender) -of course I'm over-simplifying, but you get the point - - it boils down to your personal taste.
The DSL and TSL amps offer a nice spectrum of tones but IMHO does them all well but not stellar. Unfortunately, I've yet to fing THE amp that covers everything stellar.....
Good luck and try them all -with YOUR guitar or it's pointless.

I don't really like the TSL but if your considering getting a Marshall, give the DSL series a try, I find the DSL's tone to much nicer than the TSL

Re: What do you guys think of the Marshall TSL100 head?

I agree with the recomendations for a DSL, after trying both I use the DSL100 and use a couple of booster pedals to add extra instead of the 3rd channel. I think the DSL sounds a lot better but to really get a good sound you need to add a hotplate (or similar) so you can push the power amp and not be too loud.

Cheers

Re: What do you guys think of the Marshall TSL100 head?

My honest opinion: poor excuse for a tube amp.

Too fizzy. I buy Marshalls for good power amp distortion without some kind of tube saver circuit in them! It should sound best with the Master volume at 10 not 4!

Might as well get a DSL though. Fewer controls (which is one of my pet peeves) and all the good sounds from a 2000 come from the clean channel anyway!
