Re: What to get? Legacy 3 or Axe-FX?

This has become a thread about whether the Axe Fx is as good or superior to a good amp. I think that the OP was asking what would work better as a bedroom/recording unit. In this case then the Axe Fx would totally be the way to go if cost was not an issue. It's a lot of money for bedroom noodling but would sound infinitely superior to a valve amp at low volume. No contest. Live, and cranked however the differences would be subtle and the Axe Fx would need a lot more gear than a straight amp. There's a hell of a lot of venues with no monitoring remember.

I'm very happy with my Axe FX ultra. It sounded just as good after the II was released as it did before. I'll replace it when it no longer meets my needs, not just because there are newer shiny toys.
For the same reason I still use a Marshall 6100. There are many newer amps out there that have more channels, options etc, but the 6100 still works for me.
100% agree,it's no different to me using my ADA MP1 from 1988.
It will remain what it is regardless of newer products.....a brilliant sounding preamp/modeler/effects unit.
And you only pay for an Axe fx2 once...the upgrades are free.

Yeah, i should probably stay out of this discussion. I was just thinking of servicing issues, etc...where when a very complex piece of modern digital technology is outdated, it is no longer supported whatsoever. I did just switch to a Gmajor 2 from my original TC electronic Gmajor,,,,but only for the added intelligent shifting option (which I don't really use.) My point was just that, in the long haul, like ten years, the digital technology of today is very obsolete. Again, if you still like it,,,,like using an old computer and those floppy discs, you can do it, but no one is able to help when something goes wrong. Enough of my rambling.

Wow, nice stuff. But then again, Guthrie could make a Roland Cube sound great.

Re: What to get? Legacy 3 or Axe-FX?

If this is for home use and recording, I have to vote AxeFX. It is difficult to crank a tube amp without an ISO Cab. AxeFX2 is only $2199, while a Legacy 3 is $899, Rivera SilentSister 1x12 Guitar Isolation Speaker Cabinet is $999, and than a decent mic, audio interface, mic preamp. This will probably cost more than a AxeFX 2 and the AxeFX is just going to be more simple to use.

Re: What to get? Legacy 3 or Axe-FX?

Just buy a Kemper and find a profile of a Legacy or make one. Axe-fxs are nice for have way too many tonal options but can be confusing and the minor latency takes some getting used to. My ultra blew its A/D converter at a huge gig so thats my reason for switching to a Kemper, plus it has a better feel IMO.

So minor it's the equivalent of being about a foot (30cm) further away from your cab (there is a latency effect using any amp due to sound traveling at a finite speed). Really, is that an issue for you? Do you actually find it problematic if you move a foot further away from your cab? I doubt it.

I've an Axe Fx-2 and recording straight USB has no latency here. Neither does XLR out. The most latency i've gotten is like a 5ms delay between presets.
