What kind of picks do you guys use?

I wanted a pick with a good grip, and I'm trying out the "Snarling Dog" Brain Picks, 73mm & 88mm.

So far I have to say I'm pretty impressed. They have almost a sandpaper feel but you get used to it quickly.

Planet Waves Black Ice 1.10mm Heavies, a little larger than a Jazz, with superior tone and control...check em!

I use Dunlop picks, Derlins. I'd prefer the thicker ones, 1mm to 2mm, but now I'm using a .96mm one. Any type of fast picking on multiple strings at the same time tends to 'disarm' me of any pick thicker than that.

Dunlop Tortex .73mm (the yellow ones)

Only thing i'll use. I buy em by the 72 pack.

Very grippy, and the perfect amount of flex for shredding and sweep picking. Also very resilient to damage and breaking (unlike the Fenders; i'll gnarl through a Fender pick in one or two songs...)

I like the Jazz III's too, but I tend to drop them because of their small size and lack of grip compared to the Tortex during high velocity playing.

I went to Steve Clayton to make custom imprinted size 1.00 picks and compared to the $.50 a piece price they are normally sold for I end up getting them @ $.30 each (buying quantity, $100 = 300 picks for one sided, one color).

I actually use 3 different types of picks for different playing,

For solos and mostly lead stuff I use Eric Johnson Jazz III's (I feel they are brighter and allow for more contact with the string then regular Jazz III's plus they have much better grip)

For a badass rock 'n' roll / blues rock sound I have a pick in the shape of a Jazz III that i made out of a 1969 quarter and polished smooth. Awesome for that Billy Gibbons sound!

Finally for playing Riffs chords, or generally bright clean channel stuff(or acoustic), I use some some generic medium picks shaped like the fender picks, that my local shop gives me a bunch of every time i go there.

Dunlop 1mm, 1.14mm, and now mostly V Pick Medium Pointed and Screamer.

Mostly it has been Jim Dunlop 1 mm, but when I ordered the last batch they sent me 10 free "catcus picks" heavy - 1mm, and I'm very impressed, lots of grip, good shape - almost similar to the Jim Dunlop ones, great feel, so I ordered a whole bunch and am really happy with them, haven't heard of them before or anywhere else except for that store on the "auction site"

Hi All, I used to use nothing but Dunlop Tortex Fin picks @ .88mm - but I went and tried the Dunlop Tortex Pitch Black Jazz @ 1.14mm and I love them! So now I am trying to find some stone picks to play around with. Oh and also if you get the chance pick up a jellyfish pick - very cool tones from that on an acoustic / electric.

Believe it or not, I actually use the Guitar Center (red) picks hahaha.

I do also use Dunlop Nylon 1mm, Dunlop Gator Grip .73mm, Dunlop Jazz III, and Dunlop Tortex .73mm picks.

Dunlop 2.0 mm......the dark purple ones. Way back in the day I'd used the thinnest picks possible. I don't know how I could of ever thought that was a good idea. I pick one of those up nowadays, and wonder how the hell I could of played at all with one of those.

I used to use Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm(purple), but Dunlop sent me some pick samples and one of the samples was their new Ultex Sharps and now I'm hooked on them and also use them in 1.14mm. If you've never tried the Sharps, I recommend you give 'em a try. They're very nice, you can pick alot faster and cleaner with them.
