What Should Humidity Level Be?

What is the ideal humidity level for my guitar storage room. I have both acoustic and electric. Is more or less humidity more harmful? Thanks

Re: What Should Humidity Level Be?

Hey Thrash,

I see that no one had responded here for you. I keep my room between 45% and 50% humidity. Too much humidity can be just as damaging as too little, but the swings from too much (typical of the summer months in the midwest US) and too little (typical of the winter months in the midwest US) are what really kill. If you want to really get some good information on this go to the Taylor guitars website. They have all sorts of great info on guitar care on their website for download.

Re: What Should Humidity Level Be?

I'll second that post. Avoid extremes on both sides and try to do what you can when the seasons change to let your instraments gradually adjust. The electrics won't be as affected by the changes, but I usually keep my accoustics in their cases when I'm not playing them because I've heard that that helps to make the humidity transition more gradual. It also makes me less likely to damage them when I'm messing around and accidentally bump or knock over stuff.
