What stompbox tuners are people using?

What stompbox tuners are the quickest and the most hassle-free to use in a gig situation?

I'm thinking of ease-of-use, reliability, readability...

I hate tuners that are so "twitchy" that it takes forever to get a reliable reaidng on each string...

Any opinions on the new Korg "Pitchblack"? It's supposed to have true bypass without a mod, which would be a bonus...

I have 2 Korg DT10BRs. There was a guy on the bay getting rid of a bunch for like $65 each. Does the job great. It isnt true bypass but I run a loooper on my boards so it didnt matter to me

Re: What stompbox tuners are people using?

At the time that i bought my tuner i was looking for one that was true bypass and there were only two models on the market. The Peterson strobo stomp (the one i went for in the end) or the planet waves one which looks pretty cool and i was gunna get but i read some reviews on harmony central and decided not to. The pedal apparently sends a whole lot of feedback to your amp if you dont use batteries to power it, one guy listed a really easy mod on there on how to solve this problem so you could use a mains power supply with no probs. However to mod a pedal for such a thing i think is a daft waste of time, but the strobo stomp is UBER sensitive and has more features on it that a monkey has hairs on its arse so i would definitely go for that one.

I had a strobostomp 2 and got rid of it because it was too "twitchy" which seems to be something the OP wants to avoid. I couldnt get it to show me in tune quickly. I know there's a learning curve with it, but it wasnt worth the hastle for me. You'd think for $200 they could make it strobe for doing setups, or just regular tuning for live applications.

I have a Korg Pitchblack, they are pretty cheap compared to a lot of them and they work well. Solidly built, very clear to read and to tell if it is on or off. For what you want, it is a good choice.

I have the old blue stobostomp... and love the thing... found it a bit odd at first but I guess i got used to it quick. Its a bit pricey i guess but works brilliantly and is lightning fast for me anyway... use it continuoulsy during gigs and its easy to see when the lights go off.

I use the BOSS TU-2 tuner pedal (until Ibanez has a good tuning pedal), its very effective and reliable

i know ill get flamed but I got one of the fender ones 5 years ago just because it was cheaper than the other alternatives and it does a great job and takes a serious beating. I gigged with it on the road for years and still use it for all of our practices and shows now and I have never had one problem with it.

Korg DT10
I think it will still work after a direct tactical nuke hit, so it is the box for me. It is not true bypass as ElCid said, but I also use a true bypass looper. So no problem there, also even if in the loop it does not add any noise I would notice.

I've been using an Artec 'Big Dot' tuner... Works well, Can see it VERY well on the floor and it's true bypass too so (Amongst other obvious points) the battery lasts forever!!!

Cheap as chips too... £29 from the Bay!

Korg DT10 (Thanks, crossjem) and it's been solid. Easy to use. Built like a tank, and I have it in direct line. It doesn't add any noise or color my tone.

Who makes your looper? I have one of the Looopers with 5 loops and I just bought one from a guy in Chicago called Hooper. So far its awesome. You can choose your own color and color for all the LEDs, the build quality is incredible, way nicer than the Loooper.

I custom ordered mine from Ollmann Electronics, which is a german boutique stompbox shop. It has 3 loops and is built like a tank. I like Ollmann, because his stuff is hand built but costs not much more than off the shelf stuff. My looper costed around 80 bucks with custom switches, marble effect casing and custom LED.
