Re: what type of strings are these?!!

The color wears off of them after about an hour or two of play... it's seriously not cool. A friend gave me a set of red ones and they looked like crap.

Re: what type of strings are these?!!

Hey guys... I've played those DR Coated strings for some time before... and previously, i used Black Diamond Coateds, and of course, started from plain old normal strings. Right now, I've come full circle and am back to the norm...

In my experience the DR Coateds do not flake easily, unlike Black Diamonds. When they flake, they usually flake that your picking area and where the frets contact the strings. Now, the flaking is actually fine because the area where you pick seldom comes in contact with your skin, so there's less corrosion there... the areas you want to prevent corrosion would be the fretboard area and where you palm mute. Coateds excel at that. Strings DO last longer, how long is still dependant on how much you play.

Tonewise, this was my main beef. But first, the good thing about coateds is consistancy of tone over a long period, which is VERY GOOD when recording especially... however, the tone of coateds are different from normals...
1) Its not as bright and chimey
2) Slighlty dulled harmonic response
3) Less sustain (!? Note: This was a comment from a friend, I didnt' notice it, can someone confirm it?)

So after playing coateds for a good year... I decided to go back to my old DR Strings.. normals. I do miss the consistancy of tone and the longevity but I figured, anything for tone.. plus the dull harmonic response really irked me.

Anyway, for those after coated, the DR Coateds are really good. Comes in black, red or blue. Or you can mix and match.

If they wear a bit, it would be a good way for me to tell if my kids are practicing
