What's the difference between the Phaser and Phase Modulator

What is the difference between the Phaser and Phase Modulator? It's not exactly been made clear anywhere.

Here, this will help you figure it out, and remember it. This is how I
remember what it does. Just take the word "Modulation". Here is the
definition at dictionary.com

mod·u·la·tion Pronunciation Key (mj-lshn)
n.
The act or process of modulating.
The state of being modulated.
Music.
A passing or transition from one key or tonality to another.
The result of such a transition.

A change in stress, pitch, loudness, or tone of the voice; an inflection of the voice.
An instance of such a change or an inflection.
The harmonious use of language, as in poetry or prose.
Electronics. The variation of a property of an electromagnetic wave or signal, such as its amplitude, frequency, or phase.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, so a "Phaser" take the signal (your guitar sound) and runs it out of
phase with itself. That gives you that weird swishing sound.

Now add Modulation to that, or, by definition a changing of pitch or
frequency, and you have a swishing sound that also changes pitch
(like a chorus).

I hope that helps out some! Good question by the way!

Thant's interesting since I've never heard of it phrased as a "Phase Modulator". I've only heard the terms phaser and phase-shifter used interchangeably. HMMM.......Most phasers actually delay the signal a small amount so it won't go 180 degrees out of phase resulting in cancellation so this delayed method will cause the "swooshing" modulation effect.

I've only heard them called phasers or phase shifters.
