Re: What's your favorite amp?

I'm a big fan of the Mesa Mark IV as well.

I've recently discovered the Randall RM4 modular preamp/RT2-50 power amp--I didn't think I'd ever say that I couldn't live without a Randall amp, but guess I'd say that now.

Re: What's your favorite amp?

My 30 watt Marshall Artist, which was part of the JCM 800 range, is my pick. Sure the preamp is solid state, but being as how you can get the tube power amp going hotter since it's a lower wattage amp, I bet you'd never know it if I didn't tell you. Most sound guys never let me open up any of my higher watteage tube amps enough to begin with. This amp is the PERFECT compromise.

I would still like to get a Legacy, though...

Re: What's your favorite amp?

You leave the good stuff off the list though, like old Marshalls and Soldanos and ****...

I think my Marshall Major is possibly the best sounding amp I have ever played. It gets a pretty mean distorted tone too with a treble booster but it's a risk of blowing fuses.

The competition is this 64 Fender Twin Reverb I played with RCA tubes in it.. i use more distorted or mildly overdriven sounds than clean, but the cleans on that just sounding so damn good!

Re: What's your favorite amp?

Well for practice I just love my Spider II, but when it comes to playing live there's just nothing like playing through a Mesa.

At the moment I really like the marshall DSL's, although temporamental when it comes to sound from day to day the amp kicks arse, it's so raw and marshall, and has character!
