Which Distortion Pedal?

hey all, I've been looking for a good distortion pedal to add more of a "crunch" to my rhythems and leads. My main amp is a Line 6 hd150 which is a pretty decent amp for the price, the probelm is that with the distortion I get with it isnt crunchy enough for leads like paul gilbert and petrucci stuff. Any suggestions for pedals that could help me?

I find that the big muffs are nice if you're after ridiculous saturation (never tried the Russian one, but the US one makes your sound drip with fuzz). I also think the tube screamer is a lot more versatile, and while it can't go as thick as the muff can without some help from the preamp or another pedal, I'd still pick it up over the muff on most occasions.

Like anything else, it depends what you're after

Re: Which Distortion Pedal?

I recommend a Boss BD-2. Either make sure the store will take it back if you don't like it. Or take your amp in to demo it. All amps take pedals differently and different pedals will suck on some amp and rule on others. A common mistake is NOT turning the tone down on gain pedals. My experience is that the tone usually need to be turns to about 30% at most. If you can run you amp gain low, then drive it with a good over drive, you may get tone you like. There are ALOT of choices though, and everyone here has a different one I'm sure, and for their own good reasons. But usually just because it fits their style.
