Which Distortion Pedal

Looking for a distortion pedal that has a smooth distortion .
Could you reccomend any of the pedals i mentioned or any other distortion pedal which has a smooth distortion. The most i can spend is $150.

Re: Which Distortion Pedal

Take a look at The Weapon digitech.
It has some presets ,a bunch of distortions, clean tone and sytar tone.
I have it and it's the first distortion pedal I like.
You can play from blues to the heavier tone ever.
And it comes with a really good speaker simulator.
Take a look on digitech site, there are amazing soundclips there.

I never really liked the Keeley as a stand alone distortion pedal. It is a superb boost for an already over driven amp though. I recently got hold af a MIJ DS-1, and that is great on its own.

I suggest you look at the Tone Freak Severe (a bit beyond your price range admittedly) or a Fulltone OCD.

Re: Which Distortion Pedal

I'm a fan of the Satchurator. Set the on/off to a lower distortion/crunch and then kick on the more to jump to searing leads. Works for me. That said, if you aren't a fan of Satriani's sound, you'll be dissappointed as it's range of tone is rather limited. It's also not all that different from a stock DS-1 IMHO although the pad switch, quieter operation, a bit smoother distortion and dynamic range and the more function make it worthwhile.

The digitech harwire TL-2 Metal Distortion may be just what you are looking for. This line is incredible. I have the overdrive unit and love it more than my TS808 and OCD.

Re: Which Distortion Pedal

What type of music you play and what tone are you after?

@smooth55, the Satchurator is quite different from a DS-1, stock and modded.

Re: Which Distortion Pedal

I use a Boss SD-2 Dual Overdrive in the lead mode for a nice smooth distortion. Very underrated pedal, IMO.

Re: Which Distortion Pedal

I play a lot of vai satriani dream theater that kinda stuff
i want a tone with a decent amount of treble in it with good sustain so like liquid smooth distortion is what I'm after , if thats the way to describe it.

Duncan Twin Tube Mayhem. It is a floor triple rectifier.
Over your cost limit though.

Re: Which Distortion Pedal

The Satchurator and a Keeley-modded DS-1 both sound very creamy. My co-guitarist and I use those pedals (he the DS-1, I the Satchurator) and even amongts the noise and volume levels from other instruments they still sound different.

The Fulltone OCD is also a fantastic pedal.

Re: Which Distortion Pedal

melanhead ds-1, is the last word in ds-1 mods!

http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforu...&topic=32443.0

i did mine and i cant reccomend it enough! I also have a bloody mary which is like an extreme version of a modded ds-1, very expensive though.

the melanhead mod is far better than keeleys, monte allums and analogue mans. Its a beast now! Does suit dream theater well as i play mostly in that sort of style and it should suit satch as well.

twin tube mayhem is a preamp really and not so much a distortion pedal, still very good though. Blackstars are pretty good. Bth with this type of thing its all about what pleases your ear. What i use and play will sound different in your hands just down to technique.

i went through this a while ago when i decided i was going to build a high quality analogue pedal board, it was a trauma with a huge amount of costly mistakes made!

Re: Which Distortion Pedal

Seriously? I AB'ed my Satchurator and the stock MIT DS-1 and they sounded pretty similar. I think the Satchurator sounded a little better and has a host of other good points but I still felt like they were in the same tonal ballpark. That said, I wasn't dissappointed with the Satchurator despite it being $100 more than my DS-1. Maybe it's my amp...just a SS Crate 2X12
