Which Head should i choose?

Hey Everyone, i just joined this site because it looks like a lot of peeple help you out on decisions and give you feedback. I'm Planning on buying my first tube head in the next month or so and im looking for versatility. I'm in a band but were not metal at all, we play alternative music like Incubus and RHCP so i need my amp to have good cleans and crunch but i also want a good lead tone and a decently heavey tone because i like covering stuff liek Vai and Protest on my own time. I,ve got it narrowed down to a few heads. I dont wanna go over 1000$ buy much at all if possible.

Carvin V3

Mesa F-50

Genz Benz El Diablo 60 - all i cud find about this amp is that it has a unique tone and that its versatile, I want a little more information about this if anyone knows? kool

Peavey JSX - id have to go used, and im not a big fan of goin used

Also if you guys have any suggestions to other amps that fit my needs let me know

the carvin v3 is a machine, its loud, and extremely versatile. you can play anything on this amp and i kid you not. o and the clean channel is beautiful.. but the only bad thing is. its not under a grand

Hm, I have heard good things about all, except I dont know much about the Genz Benz. The V3 is what I am leaning towards, plus you could buy the diamond plate grille and still be under 1k lol

Bogner Alchemist is worth a listen.
I'v demo'd it at GC and liked it a lot. SO much that if I were just now going to buy an amp, I would be torn between the JSX and the Bogner.

I'm downloading this vid now on dial up. Haven't heard it yet.

Re: Which Head should i choose?

ahah yea the diamond grill would look sexxy

Darin, i watched both vids, honestly i wasnt a big fan of the alchemist idn the cleans didin't really shimmer and it didnt have that full tone that u feel in your stomach u knw:P idn all the fancy terms but i hope u get what im saying, something was just missing, it could have been the youtube compression but then again ur jsx RIPPPS and its still on youtube, relly sound sickk, ur playing too I was wonderin if u cud get an "anna molly" incubus tone out of the jsx, idn if ur into that kind of music but:P

No worries connor

Re: Which Head should i choose?

the GB will definitely cover the heavy tone & good clean. not exactly a bluesy amp. i would get the 60watt version over the 100 watt. the f50 would be my second choice

JSX if you have the choice, super amp. Another great amp nobody talks about is the B52, check it out, has everything your asking for for about 600.00 new.

Man, your full stack sounds killer...... I guess you're not using any floor effects?

Re: Which Head should i choose?

You have extremely different beasts in your selection:

Carvin V3
Extremely versatile and cool amp. Can go from vintage sounds to all out metal and does it all very well. It can be a bi*** to dial in the sounds though, as it has so many knobs and some people get frustrated. If you know what you are doing it is the best... I use one as my main amp.

Mesa F-50
Very unique sounding amp, but lacks versatility. It is a matter of taste, you need to test this one.

Genz Benz El Diablo 60 - Same thing a the F-50. You need to test it, if the unique sound qualities are a thing for you. Not as versatile.

Peavey JSX - Also a very versatile amp (not as much as the V3). Compared to the V3 it can do the shred and metal sounds a little better (and sounds like Satch) and with Vintage sounds the V3 is a lil better. They are not apart that much though. It is easier to dial in though than the V3, apart from the Ultra Channel which neads careful tweaking.
I had one as my main amp, before I jumped over to the V3, which I simply like more. But this is personal taste. Both are great amps and a lot of bang for the buck.
