Which Midi foot controller??!

Hey, my rack is comming along nicely now, I have..

Power Conditioner,
G-Major effects,
Mesa Triaxis.

mesa 20/20 + decimator pro rack (still to come, also maybe a BBE 482i)

Im starting to freak out over Midi floor controllers though! All I want is sumthing that will store about 10 pre-sets and has an expression pedal!

Im thinking of a Yamaha mfc-10, you guys think that would be okay with the setup mentioned? I just wana have pre-sets set up like

Triaxis channel 1 + Gmajor delay

Triaxis Clean + Gmajor chorus & delay..

I only really want about 10 presets like that setup (well for my main live band), switching channels on the triaxis while selecting patches on the G-major (all via midi) and the expression pedal for any volume control/pitch/wah I want to setup y'know!

I cant REALLY see myself adding delay ect via the expression I mean I play in a mainstream modern rock band so I dont think I'll be wandering off onstage doing a pink floyd impression! but It might be nice to be able to!

Cheers for any help, its pretty confusing stuff already!

Re: Which Midi foot controller??!

rocktron midimate or dmc ground control original

both should be able to be had for under $175

some people like the behringer fcb1010. i personally didn't. so try one and see if you like it.

EDIT:

just a side note too. the bbe SM 482i made my mark ivs distortion sound like garbage. it took the warmth and feel from the amp and made it sound like any other solid state amp with mediocre distortion. other people probably have had better results, but i felt it ruined the amps sound.

Re: Which Midi foot controller??!

Hey guys, hmm well so no ones using the Yamaha mfc-10 with this setup? I have been looking at the midi-mate its a main contender as for the gound control, I will look into that cheers.

The roland seems a tad expensive and kinda looks just like the behringer, though im sure there are diffrent inside! The behringer is also a contender but I have read that some people reckon its ridiculously complicated, having said that when I brought my triaxis the guy had it hooked up to one and it seemed to work great he did actually recommend it.. anyone else use one??

Shame about the BBE, to be honest I hadn't even planned on one until I read a few bits and everyone was raving about it! shame it didn't work for you, with any luck I'll be so impressed with my new setup's tone I wont want for anything like that!

cheers, chris

Okay I have found a DMC Ground Control V1.00 Midi Floor Controller for 40quid but im thinking it might be a bit too old? If not that I think it will be a midi mate..

Re: Which Midi foot controller??!

synth: we're on the same boat... I'm trying to work a deal on a DMC ground control for @$80. Even if it's old, I think they're still compatible with the most current GCX switcher units. If the firmware is updatable, i'm sure VoodooLabs are not hard to contact. Finding its manual might actually be the harder task...
If that falls though, Im looking at a midimate as well...
I also agree with adam regarding the BBE... using A BBE with a Triaxis is kinda like adding jet fuel to a flying DeLorean... why would it need jet fuel when the thing already hovers? :P

Re: Which Midi foot controller??!

The Roland FC 200 is a great foot controller, and has ten preset buttons - so you could simply program the ten sounds you want into one bank and it would do everything you need - I think I paid about $200 secondhand for mine - they have the added benefit of being pretty much indestructible!

As an aside, I'll bet you start out with ten sounds, and when you get used to the FC method of controlling a rig, you'll end up with about thirty to forty patches!

Re: Which Midi foot controller??!

snyth: what's the 411 on the ground control? I finally got it, version 1.00. It was simple to plug and I didn't have to program anything and i'm able to change presets after plugging it in. Has 2 expression outputs, uses a 7-pin midi out but connecting it with a regular 5-pin cable works. I haven't done any CC programming with it yet but it seems like a very solid pedal.
also... can anyone answer if I should use mono or stereo volume pedals to connect the expression jacks?

Re: Which Midi foot controller??!

I had a Ground Control and liked it well enough but my preference is actually the old ADA MC-1. It is a dirt simple unit that will do just what you want with no frills and no hassle. They show up used for around $50. Behringer has a midi pedal for around $100 that looks good so maybe check that out as well.
