Which soundcard for guitar recording?

Hi all,

I am going to buy a new pc, but i need advise which soundcard would be best to buy. I am planning to do guitar recording on harddisk. Also important is the midi quality, since I use midi-files as background music. The "midi-instruments" must sound real and not like beeps. Right now i am still using the Roland-rap10, but it no longer satisfies me.

Any advise?

Barry

I'm probably the worst advice you could get, but I really like the
Seasound Solo. The preamp on it is very LIVE and Dynamic, and it's a
very accurate and quiet card.

The drawback...Seasound overextended themselves, put too much money
into making the cards, and went under. People who know what these are
are scooping them up left and right. I have one that I LOVE to pieces. If
I were a better guitarest, I'd record something for you, but I'd be wasting
your time and your ears.

I'm even thinking about picking one up on EBAY for my pops to use!

As for midi, just get a good sound module. (IMHO)

they went out of business? hmm bummer, they looked like they had some cool pieces.

I like the Echo line too, as well as the M Audio Delta series.

Their Omni Studio kicks ass, because it has dual headphone outs, as well as balanced outs for monitors, and it has combo guitar/xlr inputs.

I think that's the next card I get when I upgrade, because even though I like my Echo Mia, the lack of need for a mixer sounds like a great idea, especially since I don't have an abundance of space.

Plus, people on the Homerecording.com forum seem to really like the pre's on it.

The cool thing is you can hook up an SM57 directly to it to record amps, or whatever, but you can hook up a POD (J Station, GT6, etc) directly as well.

If you have a Mac, I'd recommend an MBox, which has great pre's by Focusrite, and hooks up via USB.

I'm waiting for them to come out with the MBox for WinXP, so I can use it with my Solo notebook.
