Which String Brand to Use?

Which One is your favorite String Brand/Model?

I've Tried D'Addario, Earnie Ball, And Galli for Electric, and then Vinci when they came with my guitar.

Which One do u prefer In terms Of:

Time before they rust/turn Black.
Time They Keep the Brightness.
Durability (Before They Break).
Buzziness, etc.

THX.

Plz Post your thoughts/coments.

Ernie Ball Slinky RPS 9s and 10s

The last quite a long time and sound amazing. If you havn't tried them, I would make an effort to do so if you need new strings.

EDIT: Gilbert, Moore, and Petrucci use 'em too--if that's what you want to hear.

Re: Which String Brand to Use?

Thx for the advice. I tried The 09 (The Pinky ones) The .16 (G or 3rd) Borke just when putting the string on. They Rusted in a Week n which I played only like 4 days. (The high Strings). I kinda Like The Basses though.

I'll have to go with EB Slinkys RPS 9's. This my second month into them and they're still great.

Very well,

In terms of durability, as I said this my second month into using them and they haven't given me any major problems. They still retain the brightness. There is a slight buzz on the strings, but I plan to change them soon anyway.

I REALLY prefer these over D'Addarios, which the treble strings tend to snap in a couple of weeks or so. It could be due to my playing lol. I'm just not a D'Addario guy.

DR's. All the way. They last the longest, sound the best for the longest time, and they feel the best. Best strings , period. You can't beat a hand-made string!!!

Re: Which String Brand to Use?

After trying a whole lotta strings during my 8 years working at a guitar shop, I've narrowed down my selection of strings down to Ernie Ball (9-46 Hybrid slinkys)and also GHS boomers (10-52, and the Zakk Wylde 10-60, 11-70 sets). I dunno what it is about them but they feel right. (oh yeah, DR's are up there too, but I can't always find 'em so I stick with good ol' Ernesto Palla.

Re: Which String Brand to Use?

I use Ernie Balls on strats, and am going to try them on my Jem 7vwh with my next string change. I find they die real fast too but a new set really brings a strat to life!

On my old Gibson acoustic before it got wrecked in a basement flood I put a set of Gibson strings on that and thought that it never sounded so good. I think I am going to try Gibson strings on my Les Paul.

I have been using mostly Dean Markley Blue Steels on my Les Paul and Jem because they hold their tone a while. I do not think they have the best sound however - it's a little dull but not nearly as bad as elixirs for instance.

Ernie Balls, mostly 10's and sometimes even 11's. D'Addario is good too and I use them too, usually if the local music store doesn't have Ernie Balls at the time.

Re: Which String Brand to Use?

I tried Vinci strings and didn't like them, both in terms of feel and durability. I also don't like DAdarios. I prefer Rotosounds and Pyramid, Rotosounds for the feel and Pyramid for the tone and stability and durability as well.

Of course, tone and feel are subjective.

Re: Which String Brand to Use?

I have used the following brands over the past few years:

D'addario
Ernie Ball
DR
Dean Markley
GHS
Picato

I have setlled on GHS Boomers and haven't switched for over 12 months now. I use the .11s (buy 20 sets at a time) and can usually squeeze 3 gigs out of a set before they need changing (ie. go black, lose their brightness, buzz etc etc etc). All stings will last a lot longer if you can remember to wipe them down after practice / between sets. Fast Fret before and after a gig can also work well.

I have never broken a GHS on my Hamer but have snapped a couple on my Parker. However, this was always around the time that they would have been due for replacement anyways. Never new strings
