Which Whammy are you using?

I've owned an XP-100, now I have a Digitech IPS-33b rack that does whammy. *Wondering which models are *used around here, and which would be recommended if I'm not ready to shell out $300+ for an original WH-1.

Dont get the Whammy II, Kyle and I tried it out at MARS once, and I felt it still had that cheap "delayed tracking" sound and nasty tone on the octavte. *I wasnt impressed at all with it.

I have a Digitech Legend II with the Whammy effect but it stinks compared to the WH-1. I just picked up a WH-1 at a local pawn shop & it is great, highy recomended. I have never tried the new ones but the WH-1 is very nice.

Tomizm, do you mean the Whammy II or the Whammy IV? *Both are huge improvements over the Whammy/Wah pedal imo.

The re-issue pedal. *Maybe it just sounds different live than it does on an album, but I really didn't like the feel or sound with the pedal in the octave position. *For rocking it like a wah it was fine, but leaving it forward, and playing, it didnt track well and had a tinny sound, unlike what I've heard on albums (studio magic maybe?)

I don't know Tom, I thought it was neat. *Although I would rarely use it if I had gotten it, I would go off the deep end when I did *Remember Tom, when we tried it, it was clean through a Fender practice amp. *That probably has a lot to do with the crap sound.
I don't think it's the right thing for harmonies or anything, but the whammy part was fun. *I'm sure the studio stuff is Eventide with the harmony EQ'ed to sound more realistic. *But I definately will get an expression pedal for the G-Major when/if it ever comes because it's supposed to do whammy effects.

The re-isssue whammy is awsome... I bought one even after playing on a shoty demo in the store.
there must have been somthing wrong with that one. The tracking on mine is perfect, I can play my standard tuned 2027 in A tuning with it and nobody would know the differance. Just by using the drop tuning function.
I dont use it for a lot of what I write but it is cool to play with

I've been using the Whammy II for a few years now. * I does kind of 'track' bad. *I've been thinking about buying the Whammy re-issue. *Is it really worth it?

I have the XP-100. I guess it's the red-headed step child of the bunch. :bash:

I bought an XP-100 literally a day before they announced the reissue pedal... The XP-100 I had was noisey and generally evil. *

I returned the XP-100 and got the reissue... I LOVE the reissue.

The thing I don't like about the reissue is the knob is too easy to adjust. You can think about brushing it with your foot and the setting changes. And the fact that on power up it automatically on.

I thought the whole point of everyone's desire to own the WH-1 was TO GET THE ZIPPER EFFECT of the bad tracking...

The thing is disgusting through and through - every interval harmony you dial up wavers like a sick cat in heat, the dive effects are nothing like a real whammy bar, and in bypass mode it still makes your tone sound like a tin can...

That said, I'm glad I got one when I did cuz I use it very sparingly for a few harmony parts here and there. *When it kicks in out of nowhere it's like a slap in the face and everybody in the room is like, "What the fuc>| is that?"

I have it in a rack switcher so it's completely removed from my loop when I'm not using it. *I dunno why anybody would pay upwards of $300 for the thing, tho...
