Re: X100B Amp

Can't speak directly to the 2x12 X100B combo, but I own a (red jungle bark) X100B head, and it's freaking phenomenal. Easily the best-sounding all-purpose tube head I've ever played through. It's very, very British sounding, but does a very serviceable job with American tube tone as well. At first, I was using the X100B through the cab on my Carvin SX200 (100 watt 2x12 Solid State combo), but I've since gone with a Bugera 4x12 slant cab. Absolutely sick combination.

So, in short, and in direct response to your question, anything built on the X100B platform is going to be top-notch quality, great sounding, versatile, lots of headroom, sparkling clean tones, nice crunchy gain. Completely worth it. The only downside I've been able to detect is a slight "fizzyness" on the overdrive channel at lower volume levels. Other than that, it's perfect.

Re: X100B Amp

What speakers do you have in the Bugera? I've grown less than happy with my X100B (an '87 with 6L6's) but I may just be tired of the stock cabinet. A 2x12 with EVM12Ls might be the ticket for me...hmmmmm

Stock speakers in the Bugera 412H-BK. Let's face it, it's not a "high-end" cab, and it contains, as best as I can tell, bog-standard Bugera/Behringer stock speakers. But imagine my surprise...that cab with that head is a winning combination. Sounds like vintage Marshall crossed with the response of an AC30 and a dash of Fender Twin Reverb. I'm tellin' ya, it's a good thing. I was skeptical about the Bugera cab at first glance (as I would be with nearly any under $500 4x12 cab), but I actually dragged my X100B head and one of my axes into a local music shop and tested the cab out with the head...I was sold pretty much instantly.

For added punch and clarity, I have the cab/head sitting on top of an Auralex Great Gramma isolation riser...I couldn't be happier. One of these days, I'll get around to recording some samples of my rig "in action". It's not super impressive (at least in terms of total $ spent), but it's really quite gorgeous sounding.

Here's a pic (before I got the Gramma)...
