XTLive pedal board. Don't throw it away.

I know alot of guys are not satisfied with these things. They promise alot, but don't quite deliver as a stand alone direct unit. I did use one for direct for a dozen or so country shows, and at church a bit with my tele. But of course, they aren't rock and roll tube heads. So, some people sell them cheap. But. What I have found is, it make a great "in the loop" unit. It puts your delay, modulation and verb where it belongs. In the loop the cab sims and amp models are usless. But it's a great clean effect unit for guys that don't have or want racks, which is me. You get a decent EQ, and a compressor as well. A compressor in the loop seems wrong, I know. But used very sparingly, it can add some thickness when you need it. The down side to these things? The won't do channel switching on your amp. And often you need to change patches and channels at the same time. The most drastic thing I'm using mine for is covering Youth of the nation by P.O.D. I got is sounding EXACTLY like P.O.D. Not close, exactly. And it's all in the loop. and since the JSX has effect loop switch, I can turn that baby off all together. Which reminds me. Since you can set the volume for each patch, it's a great lead boost. Come to your solo, kick it on, you got EQ mid boost, delay, verb, all of it. And again, these things sell cheap all the time. It's the best bargain going IMO.

you should check out Lincoln Brewster's new CD. All the tones are Strat into POD. It is a very good tone. I went to a conference where he talked about his tone, and setup. It is unbelievable the tone this guy gets.

Re: XTLive pedal board. Don't throw it away.

I used an XTLive for about 3 years every Sunday at my church. I used it direct to the PA and did some recording with it and I have to say it did a really good job. I was happy with it but about 6 months ago I started missing the organic feel of a tube amp and my tone tastes were changing again so I bought a Mesa.

I still have the XT and it now is serving its purpose at the small church meetings we have at my camp on the north slope but I did use it in the effects loop of my Express for a while.

It did some cool things I really digged but I had it limited to 2 channels of effects that I couldn’t get from my pedal board and I didn’t think it was worth the space it was taking up on stage. I used it more for the ability to use the expression pedal with some off the delays and modulation effects. I had the channels tailored to play along with techno/electronica and the sort. It was very cool and experimental-ish but I think the Electro-Harmonix HOG is the ticket for that kind of thing.

As far as Lincoln Brewster goes, I just previewed his album on iTunes and downloaded "let your glory shine". The tones sound pretty good but I couldn't bring myself to download the album just for the guitar tones. Im not the biggest fan, It just sounds a little too typical of christian music for my tasts. I don't really know how to explain what I mean by that and I mean no offence to the man or what he is doing but I guess it just isn't my cup of tea. (not that you asked )

I was impressed with Lincoln's live tone. It made me want to go out and buy a pod.
At church we use in-ears and mic our cabs in another room... so it makes it pretty easy to use whatever I want. Though, it can be a pain dragging an amp to church. Sometimes I wish I had the convenience of a pod.

Re: XTLive pedal board. Don't throw it away.

I've been using the XTLive for rehearsal, instead of my JSX. We are running everything direct through the PA, even the drums. And I got's to tell ya. It's RIPPIN. After some tweaking, I got some serious tone out of this thing. I'm planning on using it instead of the JSX at the next show. I hate stage noise anyway. Direct allows the PA and the sound guy to do their job.

Anyway. I'm surprised with the XTLive. I didn't know these tones were hidding away in this pedal board. The stock settings STINK. The best way to set it up, is through a PA so you can hear what's it's really going to sound like.

Yeah, I think most of the "modelling sucks" crowd have never taken the time to tweak. The stock tones in most modellers are rubbish 'cause the manufacturers seem to go for extreme settings to show off their fx and such.

Rock on!

I just got myself a Pod XT live
I've been thinking of running it as a preamp and getting a power amp and a cab to go with it. except I know nothing about setting it up and such.
Any recommendations on power amps?

would this work?

i tried one at the store the other day and honestly i think it sounded like arse,

really dry and digital.

i did however, only get 5minutes with it, maybe it needed more tweaking.

All you have to do is look at their website and look at the features and different buttons and things to do and you'll see it needs lots of time to tweak!

I've been trying to ages to get that youth of the nation sound, great song. Glad to hear someone finally get it. POD is a great band, actually based from where I live. I use my gt-8 in a similar way that you use your xt live. They're getting cheap nowadays

I had a POD 2 - Not very good at all . The Delay was the best of it, I ended up using it in the FX loop and when it died (processor insane) I bought the Line Green delay Modeller which works well in the FX loop.

I bought one last week and I'm thrilled about it. Some great tones hidden in there, just need some time with it. Can't wait to hear it through a PA.
