A story to tell..
A month ago i went to the NGW where steve did a 3 hour clinic/masterclass. We finished classes at 12 for an hour break before he came, but I went to where he was going to be an hour early. I was looking through the door and then I saw him and my heart dropped. I watched him do soundcheck and play six songs;
Lotus feet
, For the Love of God, Giant Balls of Gold, The Crying Machine, K'm-Pee-Du-Wee, and Black Page pt 2. Finally they closed the door so i couldnt see. I waited there for about 30 more minutes, i was first in line, and as soon as they opened the doors I ran in and sat right in front of him front row. He talked and played for 3 hours, playing only 4 songs so i got to hear 2 extra ones
. I had the biggest smile across my face the whole time(this was my first time seeing Steve) and what really suprised me how Funny he was! Anyways after he signed stuff and took pictures. Almost everyone who had a guitar got it signed, no matter if they knew who Steve was or not. Finally it was my turn to go up. I wanted to tell him how we were related, but i was so speechless all i could was say please and thank you. I got my back plate signed and a picture. Then finally I gathered enough courage to talk to him about how we were related. It's a distant one but, you know I Had to tell him. My aunt's neice is his brothers wife. But my Aunt remembered seeing him play when he was a kid and she knew him. He was friendly with her brothers. So I went up and i said "Steve do you remember Stephanie and Guy Destefano?"
And he said" And steven? Yeah i do"
And i said "Stephanie is my aunt," and i told him how we were distantly related and he made a joke,you know "oh yeah your my second cousin's twice removed nephew's friend..bla bla" And i laughed and then said thanks for coming.
Well, a couple days after that my aunt calls and tells me Steve went home after that and called his mom asking who I was because he thought i was in their family. His mom called my aunt's neice, and she said oh yeah that i am my aunt's nephew. And I'm not sure what happened after that but i thought it was cool how he called around to find out who i was, and i just wanted to share it with you guys.
I hope that made sense, its sortof hard to describe what happened, but i think you will get the idea.

Re: A story to tell..
I'd have to draw out a genogram to see how the relationship is connected. Hmmmm, I can see the resemblance in the faces. Maybe you should grow a goatee like Steve's or someone with photoshop put one in the pic for us to see the comparison better?
Really cool story Blonde. Please let us know if you find out more information. Thanks for sharing the experience.

Re: A story to tell..
Wow, great story! That's got to be the most unbelieveable feeling, having
Steve Vai
as a distant relative. I envy you man! Get back to us on that information.

Re: A story to tell..
haha, thanks guys.
Its not like a blood relationship, but marriage and law, i guess. But my aunt's neice said she has some of his picks and other stuff around there house that she will send to my aunt, but i guess she is flakey so my aunt told me not to get my hopes up. I told my aunt about the show in LA this september and they said they will see what they can do. Hopefully something cool.
