Beginner looking for band / guitar player to jam with - advice please !

I am a beginner on guitar, Ive played in the house from tabs for years, but still a beginner playing wise, and am looking to hook up with people near me to jam with. Ive tried the local music sites etc, and the message boards look poor (no new posts on them for months), there are not really any music shops near me to advertise in. I am based in Lancashire, UK.

Can anyone suggest any methods of getting in touch with people ?

Thanks in advance

Keith.

You just have to network. You might know a player who doesn't like any music you like, but you might meet more people through him, etc...

A lot of the process is just being in the right spot at the right time.

keith i'm regurlarly around the preston area if you fancy a jam i'm patient, and good fun to play around. At the moment i'd be happy just to have the jam time as my drummer is working in selafieldd and so is away most of the time! Also my plastic scouse cheeky Tw$t of a neighbour has just told me to can it when i was constructing a solo for the forum jam. Oh i've also got the use of a sweathole of a room in chorley when the band reconviene or you fancy being a bit louder! pm me if you are interested!

Hey man play with whoever you can, you'll gain experience and you'll meet more people and you might find someone you want to start a band with. I had to do it a lot in my time playing guitar. I've really hated playing some stuff, but I did come out a bit better of a player than before.

i agree, it doesn't really matter who with or what you do, its all good and its quite incredable how quickly someone elses influence improves you.

Yep, I've got a great friend who plays but never really devoted a bunch of time to learning. I'm significantly better than him, but yet I still learn something new each time we play. He just has a different style, and different strengths.

Just find as many musicians as you can to play with regardless of their skill or yours. You'll always come out ahead. They will too.

Re: Beginner looking for band / guitar player to jam with - advice please !

Two good spots I have found nice people to jam with : (1) concerts or jam pubs, at least you get to know people that dig the kind of music you are and there are usually plenty of players around and (2) in Paris there are a couple of "dedicated" bars, ie bars where they mostly play rock, or prog or hard rock, sometimes all the time sometimes on special evenings. Hanging out there for beers and talking to people usually lets to find some other people to play with. Maybe there those kind of bars not to far away from your place ?

And I must agree that having a buddy to play with is just more fun and helps develop musicality a whole lot more than playing alone. I've been playing alot lately just with a bass player and a drum machine in my appartment, and it makes it ten times funnier than playing on my own

Check out Ultimate-Guitar.com

They have a forum for finding musicians around you.

Also you can do a community search for other members located around you.

I've found 3 other guitarists around me with that site. Works great.
