Re: Boston area questions

Hello Bones. I read through the thread and wanted to see if there was any updates on the Boston situation? I might actually be moving to Boston in the later half of 2010.. so all the info in this thread is really helpful. and I'd like to know things have turned out.

Re: Boston area questions

I am still in Gainesville but ramping up my efforts to be in Boston shortly. I am selling off a few things for my moving expenses and then should be there soon after. I'll update when things progress along further.

Re: Boston area questions

I'm one step closer to moving (almost a year after I started this thread! I'm amazed she has held on this long! ) to Bean Town. As things sit right now (they could change on a dime being that this move involves a relationship), I have set my move date @ 12/14/09, just in time for more lousy weather...woohooo..oh..

I just sold off my Mesa Mark III stack and my Fender Reverb Deluxe as well as many guitars, I stioll have a couple for sale in the classifieds and really, if things keep going the way they are I might not have them for sale for long. I have sold a couple things unexpectedly so the other guitars might be staying with me (YEAH!).

It won't be long and I'll be changing my location in my heading and posting from that winter wonder(wtf!)land soon enough...brrrr! Wish me luck!

Re: Boston area questions

My plan is one step closer, I am picking up a new truck (new to me) this weekend and selling my '93 Pathfinder (it has nearly 200k miles on it and needs a new home ). I am picking up a cherry red uber clean '01 Xterra with all the bells and whistles (6 disc changer, sun roof, power everything, top utility racks, side steps, cruise control). I will miss my Pathfinder and the 4wdr that has served me well on many an occasion.

I'm still shooting to make the drive on Dec 14th, fingers are crossed we don't have any nasty winter storms during my trip.

Hurry Up brotha get to your girl.... Oh by the way get a good winter coat/hat/gloves to keep your playing hands warm its getting cold here. Weather aside you'll like MA hit Boston up as much as you some great places to see and lots of great places to eat as well. ALSO ..... looks like good shows are passing in boston now. Metal shows as well. A new House of Blues opened up on Landsdown Street directly across from Fenway Park. Mastodon played there, Every Time I Die, Lamb Of God, Eddie Money, ROb Zombie just played there, New Kids are coming I know you love those guys, Cheap Trick is coming, Devin Townsend, Editors with The Antlers I have no clue who these guys are but I love that name..

Shows just got better.

Re: Boston area questions

I'm hurrying as fast as I can, trying to beat some of that lovely Northern weather coming your way.

I still have SOOO much to do to get out of here, I'm hosting my last JamNight show tonight and playing with my regular band Fri and Sat nights, which cuts into my time pretty heavily. I wouldn't want to miss playing these final shows as I have no clue when I'll be playing out again, I hope within the next 2 or so months of arriving in Boston to be out playing.

That is good news about a new HOB opening up and all the cool shows they bring to the area, Cheap Trick ROCKS!! I saw them years ago with a band called Jet Red @ the Orlando HOB and remember them because I had never seen a two piece band sound like 4-5 players onstage at once. The guitarist/singer used and octave pedal split from an A B C switching pedal to a bass rig and another line to a Marshall Stack that he could toggle between both at once or each by itself. The band later changed their name to The White Stripes.

I'm counting the days!! Lookout Boston, heeeeerrrrreeeee's Bonesy!!!

Re: Boston area questions

I've now been in MA freezing my azz off since just before Christmas. Did I mention how cold it is here?

It's a nice change from the North FL scenary and mind set but it will take time to get acclimated to the weather as well as living in the North East. Now I just need to become employed once again.... I have been self employed for so long I have forgotten how wonderful it will be to be working for someone else, oh boy Wish me luck on the job search.

Good luck man, and have fun up north!

You'll get used to the cold soon, but just don't get used to having Spring until June!

Re: Boston area questions

Welcome to Mass, Bones...the cold sucks, the snow sucks, but there will always be another spot in the country that is colder and snowier. At least that's what I always tell myself...

Re: Boston area questions

Hey Bones awesome to hear you finally made it! I'd be really curious to know what you think of the music scene going on over there. I'm working on planning a 3 or 4 day trip to Boston late Feb/early March. I'm not sure what to expect.. I've lived in So Cal all my life so I've been spoiled and become a sissy when it comes to cold weather.

If I do move down there how is transportation? Are cars much use or is there decent public transit available? Any info would be much appreciated!

Re: Boston area questions

Once you learn how to wear layers of clothes, you'll be ok. When I came up here to visit late Feb/early March last year, we had 1 1/2ft of snow that week so be prepared. It actually got up to 55degrees yesterday and seemed warm by comparison to what we have been havin up here.

If you are not too far from the city, the public trans is great. I drive about 5minutes to the train station and I can get on the train into the city, I would still not give up my wheels but you can get around without them. Let me know how it goes.

Re: Boston area questions

Congrats dude you made it...

THe cold sucks the worst is when the windchill factor creeps in and it sucks to be outside. Playing show in the winter sucks. When there isn't any wind and its not so bad especially when you're all layered up..

Hey Gilberto Check these links out if your curious about Boston

Public transit isn't bad, you just need to know the different train lines that run out of the city. Some of the MBTA train stations do have parking. The Purple Line also known as the commuter rail travels further outside the city north, south, east and western parts of the state. Inside the city the MBTA trains get a little more involved but you literally can almost anywhere within the city. You got your choices of the Green, Red, Blue and Orange train lines. They all connect over certain stops, it may seem confusing but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it. Go here if you want to research alittle bit of schedules and transportation routes. http://www.mbta.com/

Music Scene here is not bad pending what genre you are into. Boston does have its good share of Indie rock scenester snobs.

This site isn't bad for seeing whats going on with the boston local scene but they do love their indie rock. You might see something you like as well keep an open mind when going here also the forum contains snobs beware.. http://www.thenoise-boston.com/

Another good resource is the New England Performer - http://www.performermag.com/
A much more mature site. I haven't been here in awhile.

Then this site here http://www.weeklydig.com/

and lastly most importantly this site http://thephoenix.com/boston/

Re: Boston area questions

Oh dear.. 60 is too cold for me. I'll spend the next couple weeks shopping... the thing I dread most in the world. (Money is meant for gear and food, not clothes!) I hope to be prepared in time. I really need to get a great pair of gloves above all else.. my hands don't do too well in cold weather.

Thank you TicTac for the resources. I really appreciate it. I'll probably keep updating here on my trip/status to Boston if everything works out.. if that is okay with you Bones. I realize now I've been going on when this thread was originally about you asking the questions on Boston.

In any event thanks to both of you for the info!
