A bit more info now that I've made it home.

Paul(Pablo) - easily the best guitarist I have heard/seen playing in a long time.
Some of the licks he did were defying the limits of what can be played by one man on one guitar.
All of this guitar wizardry was primarily done on his 7VWH but towards the end he grabbed hold of a RG2027 and was equaly at home playing a 7 string.
Amazing.

John(Ving) - did his best to engage Paul in a duel and bravely traded licks with him without batting an eyelid. Solid performance.
Very crafty on the bass and behind the drum kit as well.
He had impresive Hamer Californian and a Washburn P2 (could have been P3 or P4) and a beautiful Hohner headless 5 string bass (GHB2AV-WS ??).

Simon(cerealk) had the BMC there and this thing is gorgeous. A bit on the heavy side, but it looked sweet. He had his BFP there as well but that guitar spent the whole day on a stand.
Not only he booked and organised the jam, but he kept everyone in check and made sure that the noodleing was done in an orderly fashion.
Si, if you are not managing at least 20 people at your work, you should ask your boss why.

Clive(earthman) brought a Washburn N3 and his famous 777BBQ to the party and proceded to show everyone how effortlesly he can play stretched runs up and down the fretboard while leaning on his 4x12 cab and looking bored.
Stellar performance.

Pete(welshpete) like John spend most of the day playng bass and drums and did both with considerable skill.
The best thing about him was though that when he was noodling his playing was very touchy.
You know when you hook up with a fellow guitar player and the first hour after plugging in goes by with both of you doing your fastes, most impressive licks? Show off type of thing, and the worst thing about this is that you are not really listening to what the other guy is doing, you are rather thinking what to throw back at him when it's your turn.
Well, when Pete played, his improv was soo cool and soulful that rather than think about what to play next you end up listening and being impressed.
I know I was.
Pete's 777DY was somewhat neglected but not as much as Simon's BFP.

Ade(AdrianFoden) played a 777VBK turned PMC, Mark(markmcg) brought a 7VSBL, Globbits(Henry?)chose to keep his PRS hidden in its gig bag .
The Wipeout guys (Darren and Jamie) noodeled on an ESP custom shop and 7VWH respectively.
James had his RG2027 with him, but that didn't get played much as there were enough pointy geetars already plugged in.

Now don't get me wrong, all of these guys can shred like there's no tomorrow, but I run out of superlatives I can use.
The Wipeout dudes did do some flashy solos with their fingers running up and down the fretboard so fast, they looked fuzzy.

Me and SalemB didn't bring any gear to the party and I did my best not to play either, even though everybody was trying to entice me with their beautiful guitars.
I probably have forgotten someone and please forgive me if I have.
One thing is certain though.
Next time I'll be bringing a geetar myself.

ilia

P.S. Sorry I didn't mention everybody that played on the "Green Tinted Sixties Mind"

I did play the BFP for a while (you might have been in Mcdonalds), but the tone I get with the mahogany BMC is just awesome-so I prefered to play that!
The BFP is having a break after 10 years of being my main guitar.

Ade's PMC has a GMC neck as I recall (it might well be a VBK neck-I cant remember now!)

Yup, Henry. I didnt make much of an impression, but usually i'm pretty crazy wacky weird, but i was a bit overawed by all these fine musicians and pretty guitars! (so much so that there was no way i was getting out my PRS with all those Jems. I knew i should have brought my Charvel!)

Ah, yes, those chaps-you were great. Mind defying metal shred

Once again, thank you Simon for putting in the work to organise this, many thanks.

OK

Saturday
First I get woken up my my mobile, It's Ade wanting to go round the guitar stores, Fine idea and at any other time I would happily go except A. I had a mild hangover B. I would have bought that JS900 C. With the exception of an appearence by Paul Gilbert somewhere nothing was getting me out of bed at that time in the morning.

Mark and I meet up in the hotel and head to the studio, Now with only the force I manage to remember where the studio is located. Hurrah !

Now I always get a bit nervous when I'm playing with people to quote Steve Vai, "I'm not really a Jammer y'know! " So after finally getting the jem in tune I try playing a cool bit in Viking Kong (Racer X tune) which kinda bombed

After a while my playing settled to mediocre blues licks although when playing Clive's N3 (I can confirm that that is what it is now) playing through the neck pup brought back old memories of a tone long since lost.

The Jam was a blast

Green tinted was ok but we can do better next time.

Next time I'll have learned the rhythm to The Drill Song

Ving, I should have had a go on your P3 since I'm a Nuno fan boy too and your Nuno licks are cool, I could have listened to that fo ages.

Globbits, You were too quiet (Vocally ) but you have some pretty good chops there yourself. I've been fumbling around on the guitar since 91 BTW. Oh yes and apologies when I turned you off, I had thought I was playing through the V-amp and decided to re-tune whoops !!

Mark, You do have come cool tapping licks, Clive thought so too or I gathered that from his double take when you did it.

Clive is as always Clive, great guitar player, great guy nice guitar
He and another guy have changed my opinion that Cornford amps suck donkey balls.

James, Whatta tone, I just had to play the 7 string through it. ( Dex I have one of these so that's why I could play it. ) and none of this my leads suck buisiness, you didn't get the gig cause you suck. I thought your leads were cool.

Dex, You should have played it's not about being the fastest, (Mental note: Jamie was faster, must practice more ) It's just about taking part. at one point I even tried just playing one note but it died out so.....

Salemb, Yet another cool guy who I'm glad to know.

Simon, Pete, Yadda yadda, Pete the hair does suit you,
We should have went to Gossops on Sat although I might have fallen asleep

Wipeout, I have to say that Jamie really impressed me, you certainly have the Richie Kotzenesque sweep tap thing down nice ESP too ! Darren also what a player, I remember Jemfest when you guys played. I just wish I could come to your gigs, you guys most certainly rock

Big thanks to Simon (AGAIN) for organising this. It's always fun coming down, I just wish I lived there it really is too much metal for one hand !

apologies to any I missed out

w00t! jemjams rock!

that was hugebig fun, and many thanks to simon for putting it together.

great to meet new people - globbits, dex, salemb, ving - and regular jemmers - pablo, mark, simon, pete, james, ade, plus the wipeout guys (rawk!). there was some terrifying playing going on, but my bluffing seemed to get me by...

thanks also to ving for driving and putting up with my abysmal navigation skillz, and major sorry if I missed anyone out...

looking forward to the next one,
--c.

What can I say...Nuno rocks!

Paul, it's actually a P2 but I upgraded the pickups, controls and bridge to P4 spec. It's not really an intricate widdlesome guitar but it's great for chunky rhythms and the bluesier stuff. Don't worry, I'll bring it along to the next session

And I'm gonna brush up on my 'ridiculous shredding' techniques before then so we can go for a proper duel

Dex, you're about right on the model number of the Honher...it never made much sense to me either.

This may be a bit premature, but for the next session it would be great if everyone put forward one song to play. We could all pick a few from the list and learn the various different parts then do a round-robin type jam where we switch who is playing what. I can probably come up with a drummer who'd be happy to learn all the songs too. Just an idea...

And July / August is still way too long !

May I use the photos for Jemfest.com? I will add this to the mini-fest section. Of course, I will put credit towards the owner of the photos. I must have permission before adding this to the site.

Cheers,
Gabe

Hey Gabe, I think our friends in the UK are having better Jem-Jams than we are lately. We must do something about that!
