The Official: How to make a great rock show thread

hey all

I'm going to be engingeering (sound, lighting, the works) a pretty big talent show in november. And i'm actually going to get a band together and so we can do a song. i know there's another band that's gonna play (probly pink floyd) and they're good. i also wana give the crowd a lot of energy.

SO, why don't we all give ideas on how to make a band performance even better. since i'm the engineer of the thing, i can do what i want pretty much.

The song starts off with some simple, heavy sounding, quiet palm muting riff with some whispering, then breaks HARD into the chorus. i was thinking of starting off with the lights off then slamming them on when we hit the chorus which begins with the word "MOVE" i was also thinking of using strobes?? also, what about a orchestra piece of music before we start playing to build tension up. i was just at a concert where they started off with this orchestra piece that gained volume, then stopped and the band started. it was cool.

any other ideas?

Two words: DRY ICE!

It will make your lighting look even more dramatic. Just don't over-use it, people like to be able to see the band.

Start the song in big plastic pods, or maybe get an 18" Stonehenge replica made with dancing midgets around it

Hehe, it's not easy to play when you're snowblind either!

I just came across an ancient video of my old band when we were using the dry ice machine. The stage was backlit with blue lights which looked pretty cool. I didn't care much for those multi coloured lights though...

Our other guitarist headbangs like a pr*ck too. I believe we were playing a Pantera cover. Thank god those days are over
