UK JemJam - Manchester July 20th

UK JemJam - Manchester. Saturday July 20th

OK, here's the story so far. Mr Satriani is playing in Manchester on Saturday July 20th - I hope you've got your tickets already!?

Fancy making a bit of a day of it? If so I shall be hosting a UK JemJam in a rehersal studio not too far from the gig venue.

My current plan is to hire out the showcase suite at a local studio, complete with PA and 'VIP' chillout area! The studio have been spoken to already and are happy to accomodate us so that's great news. I'd suggest something along the following lines.....

Schedule :-
  • Those that are local or who can gather early in Manchester for brunch 10am-noon, Venue will be the TriBeCa Bar in Sackville street. Historic venue for local guitar types. All day breakfast is a must!
  • 12pm - 6pm JemJam time. I shall post a url with some mp3s of a couple of backing tracks for playing along with... hone your tone! If you have suggestions post them here along with a URL for an MP3. I shall burn a CD full of these to play along with on the day.
  • 6pm - 7:30pm a quick bite to eat somewhere
  • 7:30pm Doors at the Manchester apollo for the Satriani gig
  • Later :- Into the famous 'curry mile' in Rusholme and sample some of the best Indian food anywhere west of Delhi. Lime Pickle eating competition is optional

If you don't fancy all day in the studio then Manchester has plenty to offer, there are a few music stores all within easy reach and worth a look see if you'r eintown and aside from that there are the fabulous city art galleries and museums. Ask me for recommedations!

So if that sounds like a half decent way to spend your Saturday before you go to the gig - let me know if you're interested!

I have an option on a couple of rooms at the rehersal venue and will need to confirm the right size space in a week or so...

Let me know if you can make it, how many people you're bringing and what kind of rig you can bring along.

ahhh... mr fod,

fine though it soundeth, that's one that I cannot make. that weekend is pencilled in as a rehearsal weekend, and if that doesn't happen, I shall be taking a (much needed) weekend away somewhere with mrs. earthman.

:-)

have fun (and sink a couple) for me though! ;-)

cheers,
--c.

Dude! I'd love to take part!!! Only one problem, I'm bringing my G/f to the Satch gig, but I'm sure she wouldnt mind sitting through a jam session (she's pretty open minded about music)

I'll have to see how I get on, but the idea of it sounds great... one prob tho... where do we leave our gear when were not jamming? in the rehearsal room???

No problemo. My good lady will be in attendance too, should the music stuff all get a bit much then they can always go off shopping, talk about fluffy kittens, or something Only joking. All ladies are welcomed with open arms.

Gear storage post the Jam is not a problem, I can arrange a drop off point where gear can be safely stashed whilst you're 'Satch boogieing' away at the gig. Do you have much of a rig?

Excellent guys! Glad this is happening! We can host a bit of space on Jemfest.com if you would like to post pictures or short videos.

Please work this with one of the organizers if you want to do this.

Most certainly not

Oh yeah, I can too. For about six seconds. Ask any of the UK Jem boys! My playing is thoroughly mediocre but that doesn't stop me enjoying goofing about a bit.

Seriously though, I'll post a URL with some suggested backing tracks for you to download so that you can at least pick up the key and get something together before we play. Nothing outrageous, just good fun playing along tunes.

The last London Jam was fun. Read about it here

Well, I guess 8 or 9 will pitch on the day, could be more, may be less. I'll post an updated list of confirmed attendees later this week.

I've got a bag full of them! I've a couple of Jems (An FP and a PMC) and I also have an old 80's Charvel and some other assorted mongrels. I'll take a couple along on Saturday for you to see.

Updated details for Saturday 20th

Hi,

If I've not already spoken to you then here's some formal confirmation of the details and location for Saturday.

Those that are local or who can gather early in Manchester for brunch
10am-noon, Venue will be the TriBeCa Bar in Sackville street. Historic venue for local guitar types. All day breakfast is a must! http://www.tribeca-bar.co.uk/
12pm - 6pm Jam time. I shall post a url with some mp3s of a couple of backing tracks for playing along with... hone your tone! If you have suggestions post them here along with a URL for an MP3. I shall burn a CD full of these to play along with on the day.
6pm - 7:30pm a quick bite to eat somewhere. Our audio engineer for the day(Ian) works as the Station Engineer for Century 105 in Manchester. As the station is just a few minutes away from the gig (thankyou Ian, and Century) we have an offer to stash gear safely after the Jam.
7:30pm Doors at the Manchester Apollo for the Satriani gig. Yay!
Later :- Into the famous 'curry mile' in Rusholme and sample some of the best Indian food anywhere west of Delhi. Lime Pickle eating competition is
optional

Studio Details

Here's where it's at....
http://makeashorterlink.com/?T1B725541
'Bluefish Corporation'
Beehive Mills
Jersey Street
Manchester
M4 6JG

The studio telephone number is 0161 228 0357. If you get there before me then ask for 'Doug' the showcase suite is booked in my name and will be available from 11am-6pm. We have at our disposal a 1K PA, 24 track desk and a few vocal mics. I shall provide a CD for backing and an audio engineer. I've arranged for the whole event to be recorded to DAT, I'll mix down a CD of highlights from the session for those that require it.

Now, this being Manchester and the former heartland of the industrial revolution the Studio is in a converted cotton mill. Carting a JCM800 head and a 1960 cab up four flights of stairs is good for the soul and will remind you of your proud industrial heritage. Or something. Anyhow, the suite is on the fifth floor so take a breath before you run up the stairs. There is ample secure car parking at the venue.

Jam Tunes

Here's the link to the files that should get the ball rolling :-
http://www.justjoanauctions.freeserve.co.uk/audio/

There's a couple of mp3s there, download and hone your tone! I've picked some very simple (slowish) rock thing sthat you should be happy playing a few licks over. Hone your tone jamsters!

This is not an exclusive list! Indeed, if you have something that you'd like to play along with then pack it in your guitar case and bring it along! I've had a few mails already along the lines of "I'm a bit concerned about making an ass out of myself" / "I'm terrified about playing in public" / "I'm scared!". This is *NOT* a widdle competition, just half an excuse for some guys to get together and have a little fun. Please do come, I guarantee you'll enjoy it and will be delighted at the whole affair.

Other Stuff
Well, I can't think of any 'other stuff'. If you'd like to make a day of it then please let me know. My email address is mail@adrianfoden.freeserve.co.uk
If you can't make the Brekkie / Jam / Curry then do make sure you catch up with me at the Apollo and say hello / buy me a beer!

All systems go!

We appear to have a full house of Jem types including heroic journeys from across the UK from Jemsites Pablo (Glasgow) and CerealK (London), plus a smattering of local 'talent' . We've also got a Satch fan from Tyneside motoring his way across the country, take a bow Pete Spaldin!

Four hour car journey for a Jem-Jam? Pah! Distance is no object for these boys! The lure of the Jem-Jam is Mighty!

Full report, photos and a Satriani gig write up sometime on Monday!

Well I'm back after a cool time.

It was great to Meet Mr and Mrs Fod again (Again, Happy brithday Ade) Si, and every body else who turned up.

The Jam was a blast apart from a few bum notes by yours truley. Ade remind Pete that's actually a very good player. He was a bit nervous as he though he was going to be playing with Satch and Vai types instead of some hacks (speaking for myself anyway) with expensive guitars

Satch was very cool I'll add my bits to Ade's review.

We need to do it again soon.

Regards
P
