A Lil' help with Pod & Other pedals

Hi guys

I bought a Pod a month or two back and have used it to record some stuff onto my computer. The only problem comes when I try and hook some other pedals up to it (like a wah or whammy). When I go from guitar-pod-computer, it sounds fine through the speakers, but when I go from, for example, guitar-whammy-pod-computer, I can hardly hear it at all - it's like the pod wasn't there. I thought the Pod is meant to be a good pre-amp which sorta boost's the signal? Or do I need some more equipment?

This might sound obvious and patronising, but check out all the cables?

I use guitar->Whammy->Pod->Mixer->studio amp & speakers and I haven't noticed any change in level when I add the whammy
