a newbie needs help... please give me a direction...

Hey,

I'm new to the whole recording thing. i've recorded a few songs on my 4 track, but thats as much experience as i have. what are the different ways to record? pros and cons?
i own a Tascam 4 track cassett recorder, a Shure SM57 microphone, and a decent computer (in an open, noisy room)

What do you think my options are? i would love to be able to upload my songs to my computer, but how do i do that from cassett? how do i record to my computer? HELP!!!

Thanks guys!

Ash

I assume the 4-track cassette has a little mixer on it or some way to sum the tracks together. If your computer has a decent sound card you can find a decent audio program that you can record directly into from your 4 track. There are so many programs and differences in opinion about whice is best for the price. I'd say to find a free one to start with.

Once your audio is in a program you can convert it to mp3 and mail it to people. You can also edit, EQ, etc. If the program has multi-tracks and editing you can sell the 4-track.

In a noisy room direct recording is best. Like a POD or some amp modeler. Speaker emulators are also available to help your tone if going directly out of an amp.

http://www.goldwave.com You can master down into this program (through the line-in) and encode as whatever file you want.

Thanks guys!
a friend of mine just got me a cd with all sorts of programs on it (Sound forge, pro tools, cubase, acid) will any of these do?
I have a boss gt6. will that do the job instead of a pod?
and should i get one of those converter things to plug my 'fat' guitar cable into the 'small' computer port? Thanks again!

You are going to want to go from your GT-6 straight into your sound card on your PC. I don't know what card you have, but radio shack has all the adaptors you would ever need. Be careful with how you treat your monitors, it is very easy to blow the little freebe speakers most PCs ship with. Just a little moderation is required.
