Acoustic micorophones

Good day. I was just wondering what the best acoutic mic to go for is. I know that the shure sm57 has it down when it comes to miccing amps etc but what about for acoustic recordings? The use will be solo, fingerstyle acoustic and obviously I want to try and achieve a warm, resonant tone. Any suggestions? I want something in the £100/$200 mark. Thanks in advance for any help!!!!!

That's kind of hard to say, as basically "the sky's the limit" with spending on microphones. Check "Recording" magazine or "Sound on Sound" magazine for some examples.

In general, though, you'll probably want a condenser microphone with a cardioid pattern. I would recommend something like the MXL 991. In fact, you can get the 991 through Musician's Friend along with an MXL 990 vocal mic for an excellent price.

Any other suggestions out there?

I've had good luck with my AT4033, but it is no longer offered, the 4050 is supposed to be a nice replacement for it. It's a large diaphragm mic, and really sounds great, you just need to iron out positioning.

I've been using a pair of AKG C1000s's on my acoustic- I got them together for about $300, I think. Tonally, they're going to be a bit brighter than a large diaphram, and while you can run into phasing issues with stereo micing if you get it right you can get some seriously expansive sounds.

i would get a condenser mic for recording acoustics. it will sound the best. you can spend 3,000 and get a neuman..... those are always good. otherwise AKG makes good cheap condenser mics
