Adat to computer for recording

Does anyone know if you can record to your computer (providing you have a soundcard and everything with lightpipe for adat) via Adat lightpipe??
If you arm 8 tracks of adat for recording.......and you hook the light pipe from the adat out to the computer soundcard lightpipe "in", can you record to your computer with the adat setup like this?? The inputs/mics would be fed to the adat via mixer. Reason i ask is cuz i would like to record 8 tracks of drum mics simultaneously but my computers soundcard only has 4 inputs for mics, and i'd like to record 8 tracks straight to the computer.....and not have to transfer the tracks from adat.
Anyone know if this works?

It should. The A/D convertors are live when recording is "armed", so I don't see why they shouldn't output to lightpipe. My Foxtex VF16 with lightpipe works this way, anyway.

This definitely works. I have a MOTU 828 with lighpipe inputs and I use it to record a Triton Rack's lightpipe outs and it works great.

sweet....i'll have to try this out. Better yet, i could also record on the adat at the same time.....while doing so on my computer. Makes for quick backups!
