any advice on what to buy?

hey guys, i need some help in this department since ive never bought any recording stuff before except for this mini one where it records with a tape and i hated the way that thing sounded so i dont want that.
So can anybody tell he which is the way to go either one of those big digital things for $3,000 or some typre of software? I record shred type stuff and i would like something that maybe had a drum machine built in it or something (a good one). and if you guys could maybe tell me what you've all been using and if its good or not would be a great help to me

Re: any advice on what to buy?

i use both

a 8 track digital desk and cubasis sx3 on my computer.

if you need muilt-tracks and hav a bit of money to spend go the computer software

but if you don't hav a very good sound card in your computer then you are better off getting the digital desk because a good sound card can be costly.

the digital desk would hav the same quaitly as most recording programs, very portable so you can go and record anything, anywhere (where the computer isn't that flexable)

the software in the digital desk can be updated and new effects added ( drum machine programs to). it depends on which model and how much you spend to what extra's you get.

the sound card will covert the sound coming from your mixer or what ever. and turn it into a digital signal. which is then recorded in your program.

the more expencive the sound card the more channels it has (things you can record at the same time).

it's not really that nesasary to buy a 24 channel card when all you need is 6

a good digital desk has between 8-16 channel's

You may not need many chanels depending on what you are trying to do. If you are going to be mostly recording one instrument at a time, you can get some very good quality sound cards at a resonable price. Of course the more channels you have the more options you have for recording.

We used Nuendo to record our new cd and i think it was really easy to work with....but if you plan on going to a pro studio to mix down after you record I would suggest getting something that is compatable with pro tools since most studios use that software I think an M-box is about $450 which gives you pro tools software included
