Re: Audio Interface and monitors
get the presonus fp10(firepod) or the firestudio project. these have really good preamps for the price and with firewire, are able to stream more data to the host. as for monitors, i REALLY recommend the krk rp8. i use them and EVERYONE i know that has tried/heard them instantly fall in love with them. if space is an issue, get the rp5's. at any rate, there are AMAZING series of studio monitors. with that, it fits you budget of $800-1000usd and you will be able to make some KILLER demos with those 2 pieces of gear. next in line will be to get a great mic and maybe a dedicated preamp/strip for it. the rode ntk should be high on that list due to quality and value. keep this in mind, garbage in, garbage out. it's better to spend a bit more than your budget allows on the front end of studio gear on quality pieces so that if you don't like it as much you can sell it for close to what you put in it. also, industry standard gear is what is is for a reason, it is time proven gear. the firepod is a great piece of gear with class a pre's for less than $400. the krk's...well studio monitors are the only thing that krk makes, and they have become fixtures in many high dollar studios. the ntk has quickly become a go to mic, going head to head with many neumanns costing twice to 10 times as much.
