Best Computer for Recording Music?

Hi everybody

i need advice. I am planning on buying a computer for recording music/
multi media and well computer stuff(movies/games). I only have 2,000$ to spend total. Laptop or desktop... doesnt matter.
Basically i need

1)computer(PC preferably)
2)Good studio moniters(for amplifying my Modeling amp and for playback
and for of course watching DVDs)

and whatever else needed to get the everything running.

btw i have a GNX4 so that would be the brains for recording?

any advice/recommendation is appreciated.

thanx

Re: Best Computer for Recording Music?

for multi-track recording live bands i use pro tools on a dedicated laptop. it's a 2ghz processor with 768 ram. there is nothing on it but pro tools with a dedicated firewire external drive for recording. you MUST have a 2nd drive for recording. you NEVER want to record on the source drive. it can be done but you are asking for it.

i can record 16 tracks simultaneously with these specs with no issues at all. of course a faster pc is better. anything faster is better. i'm in the process of building a 3.6ghz 800 fsb with 2 gigs ram. it's gonna scream. that will be my main IN-STUDIO audio editing suite....still using the laptop for recording live.

anything fast !!!

Win 3.1 is fast too but I doubt you want that.

Just about any new modern pc will do fine with a good sound card, and maybe an extra hard drive just for recording. If you need to buy software that could take up a fair chunk of your budget.
