Best PCI soundcard for recording???????
Hey all, just would like some feedback/suggestions as to which you guys think is the best way for me to go with soundcard for my PC.
Basically im looking for a good quality soundcard for recording backing tracks with guitar, with the right inputs and with half decent software on the cdrom.
I currently have a Boss GT8 which i get on quite well with, which is the best way to connect to PC, line in? MIDI?
Please, i need education......

Re: Best PCI soundcard for recording???????
From personal experience I'd go with an external solution.
There's so much radio interference from the components in a PC case it's impossible to get a really good sounding internal interface.
M-Audio make some good stuff, check them out.
Or you could go the full MBox + Pro Tools route, but Pro Tools is SERIOUS BUSINESS, and will likely need a bit of study (and/or a decent book) to figure out.

I use an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 which does an ok job for very little money.
Only one set of inputs, though, so I have everything running through a mixer first.

Did you Google it? I did and it's around 7 yrs old so Creative doesn't make it any more.
Like a few others there, I would recommend the M-Audio Audiophile 2496. You can't beat the price and it has a digital input (SPDIF) which mates nicely with the GT-8. If you're running a processor with a digital out, you should definitely use it into your sound card. BTW, you can't use MIDI for audio.
The Audiophile 2496 comes bundles with
Ableton Live Lite
which is good to get started with.
If you outgrow that then I would look at Cakewalk Home Studio 7 which gives you 64 tracks of audio for $100.

you'll like the 2496. I use it. It was super simple to install, no probs with interface, and I've had zero issues.......so far.

Re: Best PCI soundcard for recording???????
Got my 2496 card through today, came with ableton live lite 7.1. Also, even though i have waited like 2 weeks for it, CUBASE SX3.
And i have to say, i have absolutely no idea what im doing, where to start, etc
Started with cubase, i managed ti import an mp3 backing track, managed to connect my gt8 to the soundcard, but couldnt get it onto one of the tracks to record it.
Im lost, does anyone live in Lincolnshire or cambridgeshire that could come over and give me a quick lesson??
:-(

+1 for the Delta 44
can get them cheap and they are very sturdy/easy to use. Latency is pretty good too.
Have since upgraded to the project mix which is just awesome! but this was because i needed more inputs

Re: Best PCI soundcard for recording???????
but also i was just reading up on the Stealth pedal fro IK.
That looks awesome - i was thinking about getting one of those for when on the road with a laptop.
if you need it for just guitars this could be a way to go - and then also get their modeling package....

Can't go wrong with Audiophile 2496. Had mine for a few years now and can't be happier.
